Wife and I will be staying at the Victoria House around the end of August. I'd like to do some fishing while we are there. I'm not picky so I'd be open to flats, reef, blue water, whatever. Any good crews or captains to look for? Tia

Contact Daniel Estell. He is a local we met several years back through a recommendation from a friend and always provides an awesome trip. If he can't accommodate he will be able to point you to someone who can.

Stayed at and fished with El Pescador lodge there. Great time fly fishing. Also scuba was great. We took a short airplane ride to a river boat trip up river to Myan ruins, was not cheap but a great day trip.

El Pescador will guide trips for you even if not staying there as long as they are not fully booked.

Great place and really want to go back and chase Tarpon!

If your interested in fly fishing for bonefish, tarpon or permit, go with Will Flack or Rojo. They have other guides that will guide you with spinning tackle, too.

Holiday crowd bump

Just returned from Belize and Victoria House just a couple of weeks ago. I booked two half day trips through VH who employs an on-site excursions manager, Luis. They have a staff of at least three who exclusively guide the flats for bones, permit and tarpon on a fly. George, Nano and Roberto are related and have been guiding at VH for years. I heard great feedback on George and Nano, but many guests (some who had visited many times) suggested that I avoid Roberto. Due to some conflicts, my own flats trip was booked with an offsite guide who was arranged through VH. However, next time I plan to stick with George or Nano.

The second trip was a reef fishing trip with VH guide Leonardo. He was great and put my wife and I on fish immediately. Belize has great marine diversity and we caught yellow-eyed jack, ladyfish, puffer fish, barracuda, yellowtail and several varieties of snapper less than a mile off the beach.

Enjoy your trip. VH was great and I look forward to going back.
