I have two weeks left till I start my "real job in the real world." Couple of my friends and I are wanting to do an overnight kayak trip. Mainly looking for good scenery, decent to good fishing, and somewhere there isn't very many people. Any advice and/or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. The dates we have available are July 10-14.

We are open to doing more than one night. Just can't leave till Sunday morning and have to be back in CS by Thursday morning. Anything that will fit in there.

Please do it for the rest of us and kayak the Devil's River. Was talking to a buddy at work yesterday (c/o '10) and we were wondering why the heck we haven't done it already. Looks like an awesome adventure with good fishing too

Did the Devil's last year, & Pecos this year. Both extremely awesome trips that I would recommend for anyone who loves the outdoors. Yall don't have enough time to do the Pecos unless you know a landowner to take out earlier than the Hwy. 90 high bridge marina.

If Devils is too far away check out Villlage Creek. There are outfitters that can help with canoe or kayak rental and shuttling. I'd recommend the section of river through the nature conservancy land (Larson sanctuary). There should be plenty of water this summer. It's an easy two day trip that allows time to stop and fish, swim, or eat lunch. It also has shade and plentiful white sand bars to camp on.

youre limited to one route on the devils in which you'll do a lot of dragging. You can't get state permits two weeks out. Try the south llano.

Try the brazos from Whitney to Waco.
It's a fun paddle.

Too late for devils

you could also do something like spend a few nights at Inks Lake, not quite the same as camping down a river.

Brazos below PK dam. You can get out at the little town of "brazos" at the railroad bridge. Pretty steep take out. There is a low water crossing near mineral wells to put in. That distance would be a good one night camping trip with time to fish.

Palo pinto county is very pretty and you will be retracing "goodbye to a river". There is also an outfitter called Rochelles near where brazos crosses i20.

I have no idea if the water is running too fast this year. You will want to check. You can check the PK dam to see if they have any releases scheduled and take into account when setting up camp.

Not trying to start a debate but for the over night trips like Devils and Pecos, where are you camping?

Guadalupe from fm 1117 to hwy 80 is a nice float, and there is a river park that seemed to have secure parking at hwy 80. The San Marcos is another good one, with a great put in point in martindale.

Forgot to add that the South Llano is gorgeous. The state park makes a good halfway point to The town of Junction from some of the upriver low water crossings. There used to be a canoe outfitter in town as well, I'm sure they offer shuttle services as well.

Are you from Seguin Yakin? I know that stretch well and there is really no secure parking at HWY 80. But if you can do with leaving your car at a intersection of HWY where folks sell jerky and fruit etc. your good. 80 and 90Alt is a couple hundred yrds from river.

Does it have to be in Texas? Might I recommend the buffalo river in Arkansas?

I live between La Vernia and Seguin. There used to be a river park on the Guad near Hwy 80 and 90A that you could park at for a small fee. I left my truck there a few times and had no issues. I tried to look them up, and it appears they're closed or under new management. Its about 27 miles by water, I've done it a couple of times in one day and a couple of times as a two day trip.

Leave out of Port O'connor and camp on Matagorda Island. Lots of great fishing in the area

We used this service last year during a brief stop over at the SLRSP on the way back from Big Bend / Davis Mts. Really nice guy, excellent service. There were a couple others in town.

This is a great option. There is camping in both Smithville along the river, which is about a day worth of paddling from Bastrop. About one more days worth of paddling from there is Plum park. Contact LCRA about possibly camping there. From there, La Grange is 18 miles, but a pretty easy and fun day with decent fishing. Take out at the river bridge boat ramp in La Grange is very easy as well.

Another option would be to put in at La Grange and paddle to Columbus or Altair, which would be a few days. However, finding camping in that area would be more difficult.
