I currently have a 6 acre and a 7+ acre field for a total of slightly more than 13 acres of Klein grass.

We got 39 bales which I am guessing is as good as it will ever get...... roughly 3 large round bales per acre. I don't know what the correct size is but they weigh from 1200 to 1400 lbs each.

Rain been berry berry good to me!

That's awesome. What part of the country you in? I'm guessing 4x5 or 5x5 bales at that weight. How long you let it dry before baling?

Central Texas...... one day .... about 27 hours in high temps, about 90 degrees, and fairly low humidity.

I've got 41 acres of Coastal and Jiggs.

It's a topped over mess. Haven't been able to cut this year due to all the rain.

Not complaining too loudly. Droughts suck worse than too much rain

Great for making hay, terrible for hay values.

I got roughly $55/bale into it and can sell it for $40/bale. So not gonna bale any more and stopped fertilizing. Just run cows and buy it on the cheap. Sell it if I have too much when the prices restore.

Yep.... most years I am planning second cut. Not this year. It costs 800 dollars to fertilize those two little fields and I dont need the hay for upcoming winter because I still have some left from last year. So no need to fertilize when the hay price is going to be very low, and there is a chance I still get a decent second cutting if it rains enough.... it just wont be as high in protein.

Still worry about with supply so try to keep a year supply either in barn or outside. During the drought folks were getting 150$ for crap.

We invested in irrigated Jiggs ground, so no longer a major concern.

I had friends that would take two trucks and flat beds up north to load up on round bales and they'd sell out before getting back to Texas from people stopping them and asking for some. They got the idea hauling a load back here and getting asked several times by farmers seeing them driving through. I think they were selling them for like $140ish/bale off the trailer.

Ditto.

And that is pretty good for unfertilized klein, but with good soils and nitrogen you can very easily get over four 5'x 60"+ dia rolls per acre.

We are getting 12-13 4X4's an acre here in Virginia.

40 acres down, 40 more to go!

The best cutting I've had on my 23-acre Klein grass field was 200 round bales.
