Coulda been a new pair of boots. Ha!

Hell, down in Southern Louisiana, everywhere we swim has alligators - much bigger than that. just make sure you bring marshmallows and feed them those - they love marshmallows. (Never knew this until a fishing guide showed us - the gators wanted all they could eat).

cut the hooks of an old frog lure at the barbs.

Lots of fun on bass gear.

much like bull sharks who can live in salt water or fresh water, the Guadalupe alligator can live in fresh water or beer-urine brine.

I know they won't **** with us. There's too much alcohol in the section of the Guadalupe that I spend time in.

From the looks of some of the people tubing the Guadalupe., I'm more worried about staph infection or STDs...

Outside of Florida, I generally don't worry about alligators.

Let my 6 year old choose the "face".

Caught the hell out of some black bass on onion creek last week. Not in the actual neighborhood, though.

Water is looking amazing right now.

Alligator creek was named for the alligators on the crossing on the El Camino Real.

I always thought the guadalupe was too cold for gators that far up. Learn something new every day.

You can find them in some of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area lakes and rivers.

I know 5 or so years ago in Waco, one wandered away from the lake into a neighborhood. It died of dehydration, but it was a shock to most people in town.

This was in the Spring Branch area, which is West of Canyon Lake. The river is colder below the dam after the water comes out of the lake, which is where most people tube (between Canyon Lake and New Braunfels).

All of the major DFW lakes have known alligators, granted a couple might be literally one or 2. Lake Worth and Lewisville are probably the two most noted, and Grapvine likes to throw in one every other year or so.

Gators are as far north as Arkansas and on over along the east coast up through the Carolinas and proba ly into, southern Virginia. Cold is not a huge issue to them, they can essentially hibernate for long periods in frozen water.

The process they go through is called brummate. The general temperature tolerance is 40 degrees in water, below that the smaller ones will start to die off.

Isn't the Guad a cold spring fed river?

Some springs yes but not particularly cold. The upper stretches are shallow and the water warms up quickly. In fact, during the drought, the Guad completely dried up in stretches above Canyon Lake.

The Canyon Dam discharge is cold but only for so many miles downstream.

We've gotten snow maybe 2 out of the last 5 winters and for a few nights it dropped down below 15 two years ago. PLENTY of alligators to be found in the Charleston area. Not a lot of places serve them up though.

Gator in the Trinity in Fort Worth

This was pretty recent. IIRC, a cop shot a 12' gator a few years back in a similar location.
