my neighbor is letting me use his bull. He doesn't want me to pay him, but I think I should. I'm using the bull about 4 months. How much money is that worth?

I don't know the answer but I wouldn't pay him.

If he doesn't actually need that bull 100% of the time, you are feeding it for him for 4 months. And of course it would be nice if you keep the flies off of him.

My grandfather raised and sold bulls, and had no problem letting someone "keep" one of his bulls for a short time. I learned that from him, so I do the same and so do my neighbors. It sure helps a lot for those of us who have very small herds...... forcing us to change bulls now and then.

I would maybe get him a gift.... bottle of Jack Black or something.

No really that's very generous of your neighbor. A 60-90 day lease on a top of the line bull would run $500-600 probably

A bottle of Jack is the first thing that popped into my mind. Gentleman is what I like to give. I'm a fan of TX myself if that's available near you.

Unless the guy doesn't drink but if he's anything like the rest of us on here then it looks like whiskey is a solid bet.

I prefer to buy over renting. It damn sure costs more, but you know the other guy is pounding the hell outta that rental equipment and skipping the maintenance intervals....

On a serious note, unless you and he are 100% sure of the trich status of your herds, you should test him prior to using him and again before the owner puts him back with his herd.
