I think Fargos and Rudys are some of the best. I tried to give C&Js another chance. Their brisket is very subpar. Their chicken is pretty great though. I haven't tried Kreuz yet.

I like the ribs at Martin's

I haven't been there in years. I remember it being very good. I don't get CJs. They win best of the Brazos for that stuff?

Martin's was my general preference.

Even in my late 30's, I think I bring down the average of the folks in there.

Always loved getting the chopped sandwiches at Martins. I know it's not a true judge of BBQ, but as Alton would say, it was "good eats."

Wondering how the BBQ has been lately at J Cody's. Was always good for me when I was there several years ago (left in 2004.)

Fargos is best.

Kreuz when it's on is good. I've probably been 6-8 times and half the time the brisket is poor, the other half its excellent.

Martin's by far the best in town. Best atmosphere. I remember a good many evenings coming in from the research farm to BBQ, beer and dominos.

Is it bad that I originally read the title as "BSC BBQ Joints" and wondered what kind of crazy story I was going to read inside?

So disappointed.

Martins and Fargo are far and away the two best. Everything else is just crap.

Man, forgot about J Cody's. Haven't eaten there since 2013. Was always good for me.

I think most people who drive by Martin's think it's closed. I may need to make a trip over there while I'm in town next weekend.

I'd rather have a steak at J Cody's. Solid food though, awesome sides.

J. Cody's is still excellent. My favorite place I have so far found in CSTAT

Fargos of course. I love the half-chickens there. There was a food truck right behind Textbook Solutions called Lews BBQ when I was a senior (class of '14). According to a google search, truck is still there but now called DBQ's BBQ and Catering. If it's still the same guy running the truck then I highly recommend it. I always got the tacos and walked away impressed.

The rib tips at Fargos are as good as anything I have ever eaten. And I am fat and have eaten at tons of really good restaurants.

Then you haven't eaten anywhere other than there and Taco Bell.

IMHO there's not one joint that has it all together. Martin's and Fargos are probably the closest though.

Mallett Bros is another honorable mention.

If you get C&J's brisket, it cannot be their lean cut. The lean tastes like cardboard. The turkey they make is great for thanksgiving though

Man, I really need to go retry Martins. I was not at all impressed the one time I went there. I actually had it ranked at the bottom of my BCS bbq places. Maybe I just went on a bad day?

Loved Fargos until I found a piece of chicken breast bone in my chopped beef sandwich. Not much else in town to get excited about.

Mallet Bros. in Iola. The Navasota store was not as good.

Try the bacon cheese burger on the jalapeo sourdough bun. It's killer.

Yeah, I highjacked the thread by mentioning burgers.

Might have missed it! Both Fire Departments just toned out for a fire alarm there.

Grease fire...didn't say if pit area or kitchen. Extinguished, apparently no real damage.

Kreuz has gotten better with time. I think their pit is broken in now. The marbled brisket is pretty good.

Fargo's is good too. Sides not so good imo.

Lews does a mean brisket. I've been 5 or 6 times and it's never disappointed.

Is Janek's in Wellborn still there? They used to be in the gas station there but opened a bbq joint and served tri tip rather than brisket. Janek's was really good fifteen years ago. I can't believe its been that long.

Who remembers when C&J's was in the gas station on highway 30 across from where Central Baptist moved to? They had great sliced beef sandwiches and were always packed at lunch.

I've never understood the love for Martin's. Fargos is ok. Only tried Kreuz recently, Easter weekend, and it was excellent. I really like J. Cody's but more for steak than bbq.
