Looking at charcoal grills w/smoker box attached. I'm trying to stay under $400 and so far this looks like my best bet. anyone have one of these or an Oklahoma Joes brand pit? Any feedback would be awesome. Thanks.

I debated between it and the New Braunfels Hondo Classic. I ended up going with the NB. After looking closely at the two the NB seemed to be heavier metal and better laid out. If I remember I got it for around 250-300 at Academy. I love it. It does well for me.

Academy Link

ETA: They have it for $199.99 at Academy.

I was heavily considering the new braunfels but I read bad reviews. When I checked it out, it felt pretty light duty.

The best stick burner for under $400 is going to be the Old Country line. It's handmade in Mexico and use thicker steel than the others.

Go to Academy and lift the lid on the Old Country line and then test out the one you're looking at and the others. There really is no comparison.

I looked at the old country too. The size I wanted was more than I was wanting to spend at the time. As far as the nb and the oj go, they are both made by charbroiled now. There is not much difference. When I looked at the two side by side the nb was a bit heavier. Nowhere near as heavy as the old country though

Get an Old Country. I have one and would absolutely buy another one if needed.

Checked out new braunfels, old country wrangler edition, river grille, lyfetyme, and heb's sear n smoke. Old country Pecos edition for $400 seems like a good choice, just have to convince the wife

The OK Joe Highland sucks. Needs constant attention and regulation. If I were you, for that price range, I'd get a WSM 18.5 and never look back.

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I found a Pecos on Craig's list for $300. If I can talk down to $250, seems like a steal.

Yeah, $250 would be a good deal and you won't have to pay taxes on a used one.

I was in a hurry to get mine in the backyard, and I went during the week/middle of the day, so by myself. I had to rent a Uhaul box truck with the little sliding ramp and it was still some work.

That's crazy. I think I read online that the Pecos weighs 220 lbs? Think that's right. If so, pretty heavy.

Yeah, around that weight. If you can get someone to help load/unload it, a pickup truck will be fine. I just didn't want to wait for the help and I wouldn't want my wife lifting on something like that either. I just wanted you to be aware of the weight.

That is a steal! Bought a Pecos new in October of 2014 and we've put out a lot of great meat. Holds a temp really well and is pretty easy to work with. Very little smoke leakage too.

I have used it as a grille and smoker with great results.

I couldn't be happier with it. Post some pics when you smoke something!

Did all of this a while back. Ribs, sausage, and brisket.

Beef rib last weekend. I swear the meat was like jello.
