We have one day at port. Things to do or places to go/eat? Any of the Carnival cruise excursions worth a damn? I like winging it.

That's like asking if any of the desserts at Golden Corral are worth trying.

I will say that we did an all inclusive day at the beach and it was fun. The worst part was having to get back on the ship.

This place. It's exclusive to Carnival passengers. First class beach, food, and staff. When we go back to Cozumel, we will be going to this place every time. Get a massage, it was the best part!

Look up Mr. Sanchos beach club. You will need to take a 10 min cab ride, but they have much better food and drinks than what you get from the excursions through Carnival. Also, the beach is much nicer and you get more time on the beach versus having to take a boat ride over to passion island.

La Casa En La Playa is a shuttle bus ride, too. About 20 minutes to get there, and the food and drinks were awesome. They give tequila history seminars, too, with lots of tasting. You have all the time you want on the beach.

We did a day trip to Cozumel a few years ago. Rented scooters and did a drive around the island stopping at random beach side bars along the way. It was a blast.

Mr Sanchos is the way to go. There is another place next door which has a waterpark, but would only go there if you had like an 8-12 year old who will really enjoy that as the food was pretty bad. I can look up name if you want it.

Nachi Cocum is also supposed to be very nice and quiet since they have a low maximum.

Been to Cozumel a bunch and my dad is currently living there, but I have never been for a 1 day cruise excursion with the time frame limit.

1. Renting scooters or a jeep and touring the "other side" of the island is fun but the only way to do it (IMO) is to stop at a bar and have a drink at nearly every one...there are plenty. Take a picture at the Lizard bar with their huge lizard near Punta Sur

2. Don't know much about the all inclusive excursion places but the wife and I got married at Playa Uvas and I believe there isn't a whole heck of a lot different between each one

3. I have been to Isla de Pasion and it was fun but don't know how your timeline will work

4. You have to go to Wet Wendy's off the square and have a margarita...the serve them in a cup, on a plate and give you a straw and spoon. They usually have a live band that will be playing at times

5. If you smoke cigars, Havana Bob's is inside the Wet Wendy's area and has 100% authentic Cubans if you're looking for one and his prices rival La Casa del Havana

I don't know if there's anything else in particular you are looking for but ask away and I am sure it can be answered by someone here

Yes, the one I mentioned is only available thru Carnival. It fills up pretty fast, too, so book it ASAP if you decide to go that way. It was one of the top rated excursions they offer.

Playa was all booked up. Went with Mr Sancho's. And honestly, why wouldn't you with a name like that.

Have done Mr Sanchos. Last trip, fiance got so trashed on these purple drinks called mother f******s that she started hitting on the hot chicks that were there. Was hilarious. One of them, the one with fake knockers, ended up in the photo of our crew. Of course, one of my best friends that we went on the cruise with was nearly passed out leaning on a table in said pic as well.

We went on a catamaran snorkel excursion booked through Carnival. It was fun; they picked us up at the pier, rode on a catamaran, snorkeled, then went to a beach for lunch, volleyball and water sports. It was about 15 years ago, so I don't recall any specifics, but it was fun.

Been there twice, most recently in December. The first time we went it was great, but this last time we were a little bothered by people constantly coming by to sell us massages, jet ski rentals, banana boat rides, etc. They left us alone after a while but it kind of killed the first couple of hours for us.

Dumb question, but many years ago (more than I will admit) there was a pizza place in downtown Cozumel run by a Brit and an Italian. It was some of the best pizza I've ever had (of course we were rather drunk on our honeymoon). Does it still exist?

If you want to save money your best bet is to get off the ship and book through someone on land. You can negotiate as well. Carnival charges out the a$$ for their excursions. We do this every time and have never had a problem.

One reason we booked thru Carnival is if it's one of their excursions, and you run late to the boat, they'll hold the boat for you. If you book on your own and you're late, you're screwed. They will leave you. One tidbit of advice... Be either first or last for the line to get back on the boat. Or take an umbrella to shade you. No shade in an hour long line is brutal.

Paradise Beach is a pretty nice deal too. Nice pool and nice beach. The nachos are pretty good, too. Short ride in a cab. The cabbies will try to jack up the price on the return trip. Negotiate between a couple of them to get it lower.

I think this is valid if you're going somewhere far away, like Mayan ruins, but if you are a 20 minute cab ride from the boat you would have to really be waiting till last minute to miss that boat.

Yeah, I remember being in the pool for over an hour before we felt the boat move out. Was kinda cool as the pool was sloshing around as the boat turned and backed up.

You cannot go wrong with Nachi Cocum or Mr. Sancho's. Both are great values and great fun. Between the two, Mr. Sancho's was a little more lively and loud. Don't get me wrong, there were some lively ones at the Nachi Cocum bar as well, just less of them.

We will be there again in December, but are doing a scuba excursion. If you are a scuba person, I cannot recommend it enough.

Coconuts....Windward side of the island.

The time we went, we left the port area and walked to the south a block or so to catch a cab and didn't wait in the line that was swelling up with all the other passengers in the area where they all had stopped to hop in cabs. Seemed like that saved some pretty good time unless things have changed. This was quite a few years ago.

Bringing this TTT.

We are going to DIY and rent a car and drive the island - not on cruise excursion but just on a day trip from Playa. Need suggestions for places to stop for breakfast and lunch and nice beaches to hang out at. Coconuts might be great for afternoon before heading back.

Go to Chankanaab State Park. Snorkel with fishes and the big statue of Christ Redeemer underwater. Beautiful place.

Came here to mention Chankanaab. Been several times (though the last time was probably 7 years ago), and it's awesome. Also went to Paradise Beach, which was super kick ass. But Chankanaab is an easy recommendation - no matter what you like to do, you'll dig it.

I realize I am an oddball on the matter, but I was mainly interested in seeing the crocodiles on Cozumel. There are quite a few.
