What brand of ear tags do you cattlemen use? I've just always bought the Allflex brand from the local feed store. I think Allflex offers a better tag but the feed store doesn't carry them. Tired of replacing tags that come off all the time. Just looking for some better tags that don't come off so easily.

We use Z tags...

Dad uses alflex, boss uses Ztags. Both will come out if your cows are in rough enough country. I like that Z's have less parts to worry about, the back button on alflex gives me a bit more confidence they won't come out, but that may just be a placebo effect, because like I said earlier they both come out.

We went over to logo'd Temple Tags last year... so far, seem pretty happy with them. (We're 50/50 on improved grassland/grazer and native South Texas brush country.)

Thanks for the input so far. I like to hear other folks experiences with products. We are mostly open pasture with some brush on all of our places. Just looking for a sturdy tag. Do y'all get the preprinted ones or use the pen on the blank ones?

We use Allflex w/ RFID button like the picture below. Tagging in the first third of the ear (closest to the head), will help keep tags in the ear.

I switched to Z-tags about a year ago and no losses yet. I have used several brands and all of the two-piece I have used I have had some lost tags.

I noticed in a magazine that Allflex and several other brands now offer a one piece like the Z-Tag. I would recommend one of the one-piece models.

My herd is 100% tagged and I am extremely happy .... not used to it..... I am used to seeing my #101 (and others) without a tag. Most of my cows I knew their number without seeing the tag because so many of them used to lose tags. Some of them you know they were rubbing them off because the same cow would keep losing tags.

I use my old two-piece tags on young bulls that I know I will be selling soon.

Also I like the blank tags because the number I use indicates the year they were born. The first calf I tag this year will be tag #1601.... for 2016. I also draw my brand at the top of the tag. Knowing the year they were born makes your management a little easier. Some ranchers may start paying attention to cows when they hit about 8 years old, and the year on the tag makes that very easy.

Put a large phone number on the tag. Can't tell you how many loose cattle I see, but can't get close enough to read the tag.....if it even has a name or number.

I think Temple Tag used to be Aggie owned, but it got bought out by Datamar a few years ago.

Yep. We brand our cattle with our brand of course and then the year they were born below that. Easy to keep up with their age.
