How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looking at getting a couple of live oak trees transplanted in the yard. Looking to do a couple of decent sized ones that I'd have to have someone come out and do with a bobcat.

Question is what is the best time of year to do that? Is now the time or is it too early?

TIA

You can plant any time you can turn dirt. The best time is probably early fall. ... After the heat/drought of summer but with enough time to let some root growth take place before it goes winter dormant. ... Then again, depending on where you are located you may not have much winter dormancy.

Should have specified where I am located....Central Texas. It is beautiful here now, but not sure if we are going to get another cold spell in February/early March that could freeze it before it can get accommodated.

Plant it now, hurry up. The cold weather won't bother it The more time it has before spring the better.... Fall is for planting but you can plant any time. Be sure it is watered. This reduces chances of freeze damage to the roots. Some people believe in adding root stimulator to the first watering of a newly planted tree, I don't know. Root stimulator is expensive... it could help and it can't hurt, but I have never personally witnessed a big difference in trees planted with or without root stimulator. Maybe there is a study on root stimulator on the internet.

The roots will grow, or at least get acclimated during the winter, which helps a bunch when the hot weather gets here.

I agree with Allen76....

I haven't planted/transplanted many Live Oaks in my life...probably 4 or 5....but the best success for me was in the winter.

My father in law would answer "now or thirty years ago."
