I like CZ but that's just me. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the 3.

Saw that you added for Cape Buffalo. I'd skip the Ruger #1 and go with the Model 70 or the CZ.

I'd say a good all around gun would be a Model 70.

Whatever you choose, practice practice practice.

Practice shooting of course, but practice cycling the bolt very quickly and practice reloading.

Know that gun inside and out dude. Be able to call your shots with irons to 100 yards. If you're gonna do an optic, but a VERY high quality quick detach mount and keep your irons on it anyway. Know where it shoots with both.

Here is a good review for the CZ.

I took a Ruger .375 for my buffalo - ended up shooting a lot of plains game with it too. Fun cartridge

What's you price range? If I had my preference I would have taken a Kimber Caprivi but they weren't out soon enough for my trip - love the profile of the 8400 stock

Interarms Whitworth .375 H&H

Classic mauser 98 styling with ramped 3-leaf sights and barrel band front swivel.

Spend the money you save on optics.

Bit of variation on Whitworths, but there are some lovely ones.

The Whitworth Express Rifle is top of the line. They were finished in Manchester, England.

Look for the guns that say Whitworth Rifle Company, Manchester, England.

Not to be confused with the more common Interarms Mark X.

The English Whitworth Express Rifles are more refined and finished to a higher degree.

Good lord I didn't realize how much I needed a 550 FS in my life until just now.

Thankfully, lots of indecisiveness on caliber will keep me occupied while I save for one.

I mean, if a large whitetail got mad and charged me I'd need that to save my life right?

Go for it!

Clearly a 505 Gibbs is the best choice for caliber...

(Although, the first time I shot a "big bore" in a stock which almost fit, I was amazed at how much more comfortable it was.)

Wow the MSRP on the CZ is good!

The only thing I would want is a barrel band for the sling stud

I really wanted a Dakota until I saw the Caprivi, but wasn't going to spend that much $$

With the Caprivi not availble in time for my hunt I went low on price with the Ruger 77, had it re-blued (parkerized), added a hood front sight, extended the fly safety so it would be easier to work with gloves, and basically built a port mans Dakota

Buying the CZ would let you spend a little dough customizing it to your needs ( or not )

The whitworth looks too good to be true - but for a low ball price like that you could buy and give it a run and see if it's what you are most comfortable with or sell it if you don't like it

A Winchester Mod 70 ( new) and Leupold 1.5-5 should come in around $2k, if I remember correctly. Do Not cut corners on quality well used control feed actions! Your life may depend on it. I would also admonish you to stick with the 375 H&H. Almost anything with a 4 in front hurts to shoot, hence you'll shoot it better! Good luck!

I've got the CZ and would recommend it. I didn't use a sling on either my 30-06 or .375 when hunting in Africa. Too much crap for them to get caught on and for the most part you will be carrying the rifle or it will be in the truck.

texrover91

I went with the Leupold 1-5 as well (illuminated)

One note on your optics - assume you are going with QD rings, I recommend Warne rings and I like their Ruger rings

I also took a second Scope for shooting longer distances for my plains game (only when not hunting dangerous game areas) but that can be a hit or miss proposition depending on the shooter - not sure it's worth the trouble but wanted a back up that I was familiar with

At least Open the bolt next time you have a 375 H&h pointed at your head. (I know you're a couple feet behind it.)

Yes or no on muzzle brake?
Bradley.Kohr.II
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Muzzle breaks help for practice, IMO, but, TMK, most PHs forbid them.

I had Tip Burns in Canyon Lake go over my big bores - most of the factory ones aren't bedded well enough for 4s, and may or may not work for 375.

I have the hogue pillar bed stock on my 375R, and it will shoot MOA w Hornady softs, so I pretty well left it alone, aside from a trigger job

I'd make sure my rifle was a CRF not push feed for any African dangerous game. Good luck. I'm envious.

As Kohr.ii mentioned you won't win any prizes from your PH if you have one

Have you shot a .375 h&h before? If you haven't you might be pleasantly surprised by the felt recoil. My 300 WSM packs more punch than my .375. They really are fun to shoot (not so much fun to carry all day, but you have a gun bearer to help if you prefer

Where are you located and when are you going? If you are in the north texas area id be happy to loan you mine and give it a work out
