I sold my SP2022 and am now regretting it. I had picked up a CZ P-01 and since they are about the same size and caliber (9mm) I decided to get rid of one. I kept the CZ because it feels better in my hand and I like the balance of it. But, after 400 rounds through the CZ I am finding that I am not as accurate with it as I was with the SP2022 and am kicking myself for selling it. Should I get another 2022 or upgrade to the P229 or P226 this time?

I might be leaning toward a P226 because I intend to put a light on it and keep it in the nightstand as my primary HD weapon.

Im trying to decide between 229 and 226 right now myself for a night stand gun.
The differences between the two aren't substantial.
For the use you are describing, it makes sense to go full size (longer sight radius, more capacity, more grip for control, more weight for recoil management)
However, there is something about a "compact" or medium sized gun that just feels more agile and controllable for me. Also, I think my wife will be able to handle a slightly smaller handgun a little better.
So...just get whichever feels best in your hand.

As far as 2022 vs classic P series...In my opinion I dont think the polymer market is where Sig really excels and I think you are paying a premium for the name. That is not to say that Sig's polymer guns are not excellent handguns, but the competition is saturated with really good polymer guns.
Their metal framed P series are second to none and are worth the premium.

why the difference in accuracy for you? Different triggers?

Uh, what?

You hardly pay a "premium" for a Sig SP2022.

the 2022 is something like $500. That is in line with other polymer pistols IIRC.

You could do that with the SP2022, putting a light on it. With that said, I've owned an SP2022 myself and sold it as well (though I bought a Glock to replace it). I'd probably get the P226 over the SP2022 or P229. I haven't been that impressed with Sig's polymer guns having owned the P250 and SP2022, and shot a P320.

Not trying to be mean but this sounds like a training issue.
CZ, Sig, Glock, M&P if you do your part they will do theirs.

There is nothing anyone can buy that will make them a better shooter.

I own a sp2022 and really like it too. It has a rail so not sure why you're saying you'd need a 226 for a tactical light.

Never owned or fired a SP2022, but I have owned a P229 Scorpion, P229 regular, P220 Carry, and 3 different P226's. If I were to go with a polymer gun, I would go with a Glock. I have a G26 Gen4 and a G32 and they definitely serve their purpose for being affordable, dependable and lightweight.

However, given that we are talking non-polymer guns like the P226 and P229, I can tell you that I loved the hell out of my P226's and regret getting rid of each one. The only reasons I got rid of them was to impulsively jump into other guns because Sig P series hold their value extremely well and are excellent guns.

I especially loved the action and lockup of the P226 with the frame rails going all the way down the slide. To me, it just screams quality. I compare it to driving a BMW versus a Camry. The P229 Scorpion didn't really float my boat, though, mainly because of the beavertail grip. The regular P229 I owned was a little to big for my liking for a concealed carry.

The trigger on the CZ isnt as nice. The CZ I tested before I bought mine did have some trigger work done and I am considering have mine worked on too. Additionally, the sights on the CZ are inferior to the SP2022 so I am thinking about changing the sights.

Maybe the combination of those 2 is what is hurting my accuracy or maybe its something else. I cant, say, but it is clear to me that my groupings were better with the Sig.

The SP is a fine pistol, and reviews well, but I would go with a 226 or 229.

Whichever you choose, go with one that has Sig's "Short Reset Trigger" or SRT. I have a 229 with SRT and it's my all-time favorite shooter.

What I meant by that is when comparing the 226 to the 229 the 229 (and 2022) is smaller. For a home defense gun I might prefer the larger gun.

If this is the case, spend 15 minutes a day on dryfire practice. Trust me your groups will tighten up. What you NEED is trigger time. So if you feel you need to buy something, get some Scaled Targets for your dry fire practice.

If you just WANT a new pistol, you cannot really go wrong with any of the Sigs. My preference is the P226. But I can not honestly say that it is going to give you anything you do not already have in the CZ.

I have a 225 which is the single stack version of the 226. My brother has the 2022. Both are worth the price but they are in very different price points. I strongly prefer a metal frame over polymer so I like the 225. But to me the 2022 is a better deal.

You should be comparing the 2022 to glock, xd, m&p, etc. I think it compares favorably against those.

Recently got a 226 Scorpion. I'm glad it wasn't my first handgun, because I wouldn't have ever bought another had it been.

My wife carries a P229 Enhanced Elite and my kids carry SP2022's. I really like the short reset trigger on my wife's gun. I can't stand the triggers on my kids' guns. If I ever buy a Sig for myself, it won't be a Sp2022 unless they improve the trigger.

I own a few Sigs, 7 total and the 226 if by far my favorite. The size, weight, and feel is perfect for me. Not to mention how accurate it is. I suggest renting on and shooting it to make sure you like it and if so upgrade.
I will NEVER apologize for being American
