I am looking at mounting a scope on my 6.8 SPC AR with 16" barrel. I want to use it to shoot hogs at 300 yards or less in the brush and in pastures. It currently has a Nikon Monarch 3 1-4x20 with German #4 reticle, but I kind of want a little more magnification and want to put the Monarch 3 on my 30-30.

My .223 AR has a Primary Arms 1-6x, but the BDC is not set up for 6.8 SPC. I also have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 with BDC that is mounted on my 308 bolt gun, but I would rather find something that is more 6.8 specific. I'm not opposed to shopping around for another .308 scope because my main deer rifle is a .270.

I'd like to keep it under $500 if possible. Suggestion appreciated.

I have a Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10 on my 6.8. Really like it but have only stretched out to 200 yards so far.

I picked up a Bushnell Elite 1-6.5x24 for $499 at Natchez with the BTR reticle (on sale - probably should have bought two) for reaching out a little further than what my 1-4 provides - and I usually shoot at 6x on my hunting rifles so the 1-6 fills the gap well for me

Another option would be the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 - can be had for about $325/$350 on Amazon and I think eye guy has them too


For 6.8 you just need to know your external ballistics and scope subtentions for the reticle - the only 6.8 specific reticle I know of is the ACOG 4x32

I have a Leopold Mark AR. Its been great as a pig gun on our place.

I guess it depends on how far you want to shoot with it. I had a 5-15x bushnell elite on mine that was pretty slick. A Texags poster has that rig now. I will be putting 4-16x Viper HS or HST on my rebuild sometime after SHOT show.

I've got a leupold 4-12X (VX-II I think) on mine. A little slow in the brush at night, but can't complain. Debating on mounting a small red dot on the scope mount above it for the quick shots
