How long do you want to ignore this user?
Has anyone bow hunted out of these?

I am hunting at a place I've never been before and I bought one for this weekend. I'm worried about the packaging smell. I took it out of the box and it's airing out at the camp now. I sprayed scent a way on it but I doubt that did any good.

Is there any chance of me setting it up now and seeing deer tonight? Do they package these things with a scent that wouldn't bother the deer?

I hate that I'm in this situation and not at a stand I've set up my way.

I appreciate any insight. Thanks.

Probably a crapshoot. Try it out. At least you hunt it this weekend and then leave it for the season and they will get use to it for next hunts.

Mostly what I have read is that the deer are going to notice it and haul ass if i am just now setting it up. Suck for me because no one on this lease bow hunts and this is my only option.

I would disagree somewhat. I put one up in Junction earlier this year on a pasture and had deer within 60 yards of me. Yeah, they knew it was something new and odd, but it didn't exactly make them haul ass within first sight of it. You won't know unless you try it. Cant shoot anything sitting at camp looking at it airing out.

I hear ya. I spent 169 bucks on this though. I'm tempted to put it back in the box and run into town and buy a tripod. I think that would be much more likely to not notice that

If you have the wind in your favor it won't matter. That said, it doesn't hurt to brush it up a little bit with freshly cut cedar or similar aromatic bushes.

Just make sure you have the right wind.

The results wont be any different, IMO. It is new to their territory. They will be curious no matter what.

i think it all depends on how skittish the deer are where you are hunting. i would personally set up at an ambush point where they wont get a look until it is too late. i also have had good luck walking in some branches to break up the look of the blind. the blind will smell, but not like anything the deer have learned to associate with danger, so that shouldnt be an issue. if there is any regular human activity where you are hunting, it is likely they encounter strange smells all the time.

deer by nature are very curious creatures so it really is a crap shoot. bucks also do some crazy stuff during rut, so you never know.

if you are that worried about it, sit on the ground for the first day or so. if you find a good spot, sitting on the ground can be pretty effective aside from the fact your backside will hurt like hell haha

good luck! the biggest problems people make are getting in the woods too late, misjudging the wind, and leaving too early. all of those things you can control. control what you can properly and you will impact your luck in a much more positive way than the blind will do negatively.

Yeah, I think the fact that it's a new addition to the landscape will spook them more than the smell.

Take the pop up back and buy a pair of clippers... Then use it on a cedar to sculpt a natural hide. Stack the trimmed limbs in front of you to conceal your torso and face. You only need a couple small shooting gaps.

Don't allow it to be a new silhouette. Bury it into a group of cedars, etc and you'll be more successful.

We put ours out 2 months ago, for this reason and to not be a new silhouette...

That being said, they are mainly as "ground accessible" blinds for our veteran hunters if needed. I'm hunting out of my traditional 10 foot box this weekend...

if anyone wanted an update...

I went out to put up my pop up and found an old tri pod laying on the ground. once I tested the integrity of it I found a place to nestle it into the trees. I harvested a doe the first hunt.

Saw a lot of deer and now I have a stand for the season. And I get my 160 back for the pop up!

it was a win-win. Ready to spend a full offseason at this lease and have a permanent set up.
