Not aware of any guides. Water is just too inconsistent. There are some public rivers that can provide good hunting but you have the whole public/private issue to deal with.

Best thing you can do is head to the Ark WMAs and commit to a day or two scouting followed by however many days of hunting you want.

"The bigwoods" outside Tennessee colony has some pretty dog flooded timber mallard hunts. The trinity has already flooded the bottom there this week, so it should hold water for a good while.

If you have a boat, you should be able to find some good timber holes this year on White Oak Creek WMA.

But as CS78 alluded to, your best bet is going to to head to either Felsenthal or Bayou Meto. If you're looking for a true green timber hunt then Bayou Meto is your best bet. They don't flood Felsenthal anymore like they used to. It's gonna be a zoo but the hunting is pretty good if you're willing to put in the time scouting. YouTube search "Bayou Meto boat races" for an example of what I'm talking about.

With as much water as we've received this year, the Red River east of Texarkana may have some flooded timber. Not sure on property laws in AR regarding hunting the river.

Mercer Bayou prob will as well. It's typically a mad house though.

Bois d'arc WMA south of Hope, AR is worth a try as well.

Red Slough in McCurtain County, OK is a cool place to hunt as well. Don't recall ever finding any real timber but it's something different.

It's full of gators but late December shouldn't be an issue. Look at the Angelina/Dam B WMA on north end of BA Steinhagen near Jasper.

Tons of ducks.

Yeah, it's definitely not a place to hunt your dog early in the year but come late December I can't imagine they're still active.

I've not hunted there specifically but my deer lease is a few miles north of there and we've got 2 nice sized oxbows on the west side of the Neches that are beautiful bits of timber hunting and we get tons of woodies in there and a good # of mallards.

I don't know if they're considered as being on private land though. The banks of the oxbows are definitely private (and part of our lease) but I'm not 100% sure they're always connected by water to the main river.

Big Woods on the Trinity is pretty awesome. Built some wetland mitigation projects there. They have these massive pumps on the bank of the Trinity, that they use to flood the place in dry years.

They won't need them this year for sure. I think they had about 20 inches of rain up there this past weekend.

Yes sir. Here is their website.

I just know of them because they are about 10 minutes from some family land as the crow flies.
