Yeti cup makes it through car fire

Don't know how to link this except through FB, but here it is. Stumbled upon this today. Appears to be a true story and if so pretty incredible.

Looks like the clear plastic lid melted and solidified in the bottom to look like ice.

Crazy! People keep lighting their trucks on fire to justify how much they spent on a cooler or cup.

It's about as true as me having a 12 inch dick....

That thing will also keep hot things hot. A fire hot enough to destroy a truck body would certainly melt ice.

did this story start out with "i'll bet you a six pack I can burn my truck up and my yeti tumbler will still have ice in it"

Will. Never. Understand the YETI infatuation. It's a box or cup that holds ice.

If you are a fisherman/guide or don't have power at the deer lease, OK, but the average Joe who buys it to put his beer in for a BBQ is playing the "Look at me I paid a **** load for a box that holds ice" game.

It is called the Leidenfrost effect. The yeti cup actually put out the fire

I'm waiting for one to fall overboard on a lake and cause the lake to ice over.

Why do you care?

Will. Never. Understand the infatuation people have with how other people spend their own money.

Don't care what other folks spend their money on. Not understanding is different from caring.

You obviously care enough to try to belittle those who have purchased yeti products.

I'm sure you have spent money on stupid **** that costs more than something else that could have done the job.

Look how far from the bottom of the cup it is. If it was melted plastic I don't think it would still be clear and it for sure would not be floating. I also can't imagine the lid melting and raining down in separate individual ice cube sized pieces.

I looked into this story briefly before posting. This guy is a country boy out of New Braunfels and we actually have a few friends in common on FB who are all normal people, which leads me to believe this guy probably isn't some nut out there fishing for publicity or attention. On his page he truly seems amazed this story blew up like it did. It's possible this is a hoax but I don't think so.

Have yet to pay for any of the Yeti products I own. I love gifts from clients.

I certainly believe there is ice in the cup. however, I don't believe it lasted though the fire. the inside of the cup looks burned! is there a video of this?

My Yeti is one of my favorite pieces of gear.

My assumption is that is still the plastic lid that melted down over the ice and beverage and cooled in the shape of what was in the cup

Here's the deal. I use my yeti cup at work every day. I wake up, fill it with water, and bring a vitamin water with me. I drink my coffee in the gas station container, then hit the water and when I'm done with the the water, I pour in the vitamin water. When I leave, I still have a cold drink because I still have ice.

When I'm at home I use it without the lid. If I pour a room temperature Dr Pepper into a normal cup, it ends up being watered down by the time I get about halfway through it. With the yeti cup, it's just less watered down. Which is a good thing.

If something were to happen to mine, I'd stop by Academy on my way home and have zero issue spending $40 on a new one. Both of my coworkers, who thought I was full of it before I talked them into buying one, agree.

Look at it like this. A Yeti is an opportunity for the average Joe to own the best of something without breaking the bank. Most of us will never have the nicest houses, cars, boats, guns, etc. I look at it like my Hermes ties. It may be over priced for what it is, but, it's nice to be able to own something that is much higher in quality than the alternatives yet still be relatively affordable.

The cups are the best $$ you'll ever spend period.

I should get these for Christmas for the women of the family. They'll carry a drink around for two days and never drink it.

some people pay for quality, some don't.

Hmmm, fair point.

I agree it isn't ice left in the cup, it's the center of the lid that melted down onto whatever was in the cup. However, surprisingly the entire lid did not melt. You can see the outer ring and gasket in his fingers in the top right photo...

You realize a lot of people on this board pay several hundred dollars for a rifle so they can, on average, pay several hundred to a few thousand dollars for a deer lease. Then they are just given the CHANCE to get enough meat to almost fill up a 5cu.ft. freezer.

And you think a $40 cup is outrageous?
RK
How long do you want to ignore this user?
a pound or two of deer meat costs more than a yeti cooler.

Bought the 20oz one yesterday. Filled with ice and water this morning at 8:30. At around 9:15, re-filled with water. And by 10, all the ice has melted.

Is this normal?

Not in my experience.... Did you fill it all the way with ice first? Also, and I may be going overkill on it, but if I want mine to last a while, I fill with ice water, let it get cold then dump and refill with beverage of choice.
concac
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Filled it halfway with ice.

Maybe because I re-filled it with water from the faucet which is not that cold which caused the ice to melt faster.

Guess it can't defy physics.

Yes.

It is just like any vacuum walled cup. It is not magic.
