We have a 12 week female yellow lab that I was interested in looking for credible lab trainers around the Houston area. I trained my last lab, but i obviously feel like a professional could do a better job. I am primarily looking for a trainer that can train my lab for duck hunting, without the use of an e collar. Just personal preference. If anyone knows of any trainer please let me know.

James Davis 713-823-9342
out in Monaville, South of Hempstead. He specializes in Labs. I don't remember the name of his facility but, he is good. I know at least 4 hunters that use him, including myself. Good luck.

Recommend Texas Duck Dogs. Tell him Justin from Texian Firearms sent you.

I referred a friend of mine to James Davis with a chessie this past summer and he is very happy. I've known James a long time. Good trainer.

James Davis is my uncle, and he does a great job. Best dog I have ever hunted over was trained by him, and he wont let you down. His place is called Limestone Kennels, and like it was mentioned before its out in Monaville.

NOTE: the dude can hardly hear, so talking on the phone can be pretty hit or miss.

Hidden Lake Retreivers in Anderson, Tx. Kirk and Chase are great trainers over there.

Do all these guys train retrievers without ecollars? That was in the OP request. Just wondering.

I started to create a new thread, but decided to piggy-back on this one.

I will be looking for a new hunting lab soon. Not really interested in a puppy but rather, a started dog. I live in West Texas and we hunt duck, quail, dove, pheasant.

I have seen your posts about Hidden Lake Retrievers, Limestone Kennels, Texas Duck Dogs and Muddy Paws Retrievers.

Are there other places around the state that anyone would recommend? Does anyone have any recommendations based on this information?

Thanks,

Kanati Kennels are in Brownwood, would be the closest place for you to be able to make trips to work your dog if you live in West TX.

Also recommend james Davis, left my black lab there for 3 months. He also trained my brother's lab. If the dove were flying more in the waller area I may be able to give you a better report on how my dog is. But I work her everyday and am really happy with it. If she doesn't turn out to be a good hunter at least she listens like no other.

He does use an e-collar though. And I, honestly, have no idea how you would train a dog without it. E-collar saved my dogs life from a rattler over the summer (I had her snake trained).
