With the green water all the way to the beach, I had intended to get up at 4:00 this morning to head down to Galveston to hit the surf for specs. Didn't wind up making it, I was just too damn tired this morning from consecutive lousy sleeps.

Now I'm thinking about heading down this afternoon to try my luck, but I've never done light tackle fishing in the surf in the afternoon and evening. Has anyone ever had much luck late in the day, or will I be wasting my time?

Depends on tides and feeding times. I've cleaned em up in the evening before with live shrimp.

Couple of friends of mine got limits fishing from 12-2.

Wound up going, and it was worth it. Water was the prettiest I've seen in a long time. Trout were in both the second and third guts. My wife and I caught a bunch of smaller 14-15 inch trout and two bigger girls running 21 and 23 inches. Caught a bonus flounder too. Saw some small pompano swimming around our legs, but none were catchable size. Catch and release only trip, we still have some filets from Calcasieu in the freezer.

Troutslime, my wife (then girlfriend) is the one you built a pink Christmas rod for a few years ago.
