Looking to pick up a new 12 gauge shotgun. I'm leaning toward the Vinci but would like input from those who have first hand experience. I'll be using it for dove hunting and the occasional sket shooting. TIA.

Strange choice for both dove and skeet.

My SBE is used for duck.

Look into a Browning White Lightning O/U.

Agree, odd choice for a dove gun

I use my SBE for duck hunting and goose hunting. But it's personal preference. Both are great guns. I think the SBE is cheaper

Browning OU for dove and skeet

Not sure about dove hunting but I love my super vinci for 3 gun competition!

I definitely would not get a super Vinci for skeet or dove. It won't reliably cycle light loads. The SBE probably won't either until well broken in. They are good duck and goose guns. I really don't believe you will be happy with either of those choices for skeet or dove. i would look for other options.

Exactly. The inertia system really needs a kick to move shells through it.

This is why I asked. I don't know a ton about best options for what I'm looking to do with said gun. I haven't shopped for a gun in 20 plus years. Plan to give my Remington 870 express to my son as his first gun.

What kind of cheap **** do y'all run in a SBE II that it won't cycle? Best ****in semi auto shotgun on the market. Doves, quail, duck, geese, clays, hogs.... It does it all.

Beretta auto, 870, or bust IMO.

Winchester and Browning is doing good work with their new autos as well

I've shot with a few guys shooting sbe2 at a 100rnd sporting clays, never an issue cycling. I would definitely get the sbe over Vinci just for the looks

I have an SBE that I use for both skeet and dove, works very well for me. Though I am looking at getting an o/u for the upcoming season.

I've never had a problem cycling anything in my super vinci from slugs, buckshot and #6 prairie storm to 1oz 1200fps #8 sporting clays loads. I've shot probably 3000 rounds of light loads without a single failure to cycle.

Not sure why anyone would think it's an odd choice for dove or skeet. It's my go to gun on everything shotgun related.

I LOVE my Browning Maxus. 3" version. I have never had a single shell not cycle.

If it was me I don't see the need for 3.5 in shells. That being said I much prefer the setup of the safety of the SBE II / M2 to the orientation of the safety on the Vinci. But the Vinci throws up a lot smoother for me.

I use my super Vinci for everything as well. But I use 1 1/8 oz loads to make sure it will run without an issue (I think benelli used to publish that these guns would work with light loads down to 1 1/8). Mine will run 7/8 oz now but early on it wouldn't. 3 duck/goose seasons later... it started working fine. If I got it specifically for dove and skeet i would have been really disappointed. The SBE II is supposed to be better at handling the lighter stuff compared to the super Vinci (from everything I've heard). I was just saying if specifically for dove and skeet with no reason to shoot 3.5" shells... Why get a 3.5" gun? Especially one that the manufacturer doesn't recommend loads lighter than 1 1/8. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with other posters, for dove and skeet only, might as well go gas instead of inertia. Much less recoil. This is coming from a Benelli M2 owner. With that said, I don't have any problems with cycling lighter loads.

Save some money and go with the Franchi Intensity. Bought one last year and it reliably cycles 2-3/4 up to 3-1/2 without a problem. Also, you're technically still in the Benelli family.

Anyone suggesting an over and under instead of a benelli semi auto hates your shoulder.

Is anyone shooting anything besides the absolute cheapest shells they can find when dove hunting?

I wouldn't see its a strange choice, but I think most people would choose a gas semi auto unless they were wanting to add waterfoul hunting to your list. Maybe thats a thought you had when you posted.

Sooo, what most everyone is really trying to tell you is.... get a Beretta.

And this is also still technically true, since the Beretta parent company owns Benelli.

OP,

Read that Chuck Hawks link and reconsider.

We've known each other for almost 20 years. You may want a Benelli...but do you really need a Benelli (including the domestic fallout that most certainly will accompany the $1k shotgun)?

Edit: It's your money, so certainly do what you want. Lord knows I've made plenty of impulse buys. Just looking out for you.
Maroonedinaustin

Definitely a want, not a need. I just know Benelli is the Cadillac of shotguns hince the reason for considering one. Part of the reason for posting my inquiry is because I figured OB would give me a better idea if I really want to drop 1-2 k for a gun. I anticipate this will be the last shotgun I purchase so I wanted a nice piece that would become an heirloom.

No fallout with wife. Just bought her a Jeep and put new sound system in it for her. She better not say anything dammit.

You get what you pay for in shotguns, although you also get ove say $1800 on them and you're going to start paying for looks. But you can't go wrong with any of them in the $1000-$1800 range. Each has their own pros and cons. Just get the one that fits you the best, that's the most important. For me, Benelli has always fit me out of the box where Beretta I don't shoot well at all because it takes major adjustments.
CactusThomas

I disagree with your first comment about getting what you pay for. The SBE is in fact the Yeti of shotguns.

Yep...Ethos is your huckleberry.

I have the SBE. My uncle had the Vinci. Didn't mind it for skeet/clays/pheasant. ..but hated it for ducks because the trigger guard would bust his finger. Traded it in on the Ethos and I'm impressed. Light, cycles fast, low recoil and it it a pleasure to carry and shoot. It is now his clay/dove/pheasant gun with a Beretta A 400 for ducks.

Good luck in your quest.

So by Yeti you mean something that cost 4x what it's worth? Because I don't agree with that....

Take a look at Franchi's inertia-driven lines as well. They are also well made and can save u some coin.
