Time to ban alligators!

A bit more detail...even more special.

I've read and seen references to the attack 200 years ago, some question the validity...200 years, not much to worry about.

I conducted numerous alligator counts around Orange between 97-2000 when I worked as a TPWD biologist. You couldn't pay me enough to swim in the bayous around there, especially at night.

He chose to swim in one of the worst spots in the state. The big males always seemed to hang around where people feed gators or throw fish carcasses away. They are attracted to the free food but also the smaller gators it attracts. Some of the bayous in Orange were the highest density areas except for under and around rookeries.

Yep I grew up in Nederland and took several air boat tours into the bayou. It was crazy how many gators would come up to the boat after the tour guide chunked marshmallows into the water..

My aunt and uncle were teachers in Nederland up until a couple years ago.

Born and raised in Nederland. Still have lots of family there. See y'all at the Heritage Festival.

Didn't you confirm on the other alligator attack thread that was the first alligator attack in Texas not including handlers?

If so, are the animals turning against us as in that new TV series the Zoo? With alligators leading the pack?

Skip James guided fishing trips out of Burkhart's a few years back. He would clean the fish at the dock and feed them to a huge alligator that would swim up and sometimes try to climb on dock. I always kept the kids back way from dock when we fished with him.

Yeah, this guy was an idiot. I'm sure he was drunk or on some drugs. I'm surprised I don't know him, at least I don't think I do.

I would hardly get in that water during the day. Would never do it around the docks or behind the Country Club.

You mean first confirmed fatality in 200 years. I often wondered what happened to this guy since there are plenty of alligators along the ANWR shoreline where he was fishing. I suppose he could have had a heart attack and the gators did what carnivores do, but I still give them plenty of room when I wade.
