I'm wanting to purchase my first handgun and having shot the Glock 17 I like it only because I'm familiar with it the most. I know the glock 19 is very similar to the 17 just a bit more compact. I would love to hear your thoughts on these.

I know I need to just go to a range and rent one of each and shoot but I'm curious as to why one over the other from people who really know guns. Thanks in advance for your help and insight.

Such different geometries that you just need to shoot 'em, but the correct answer is Sig. Always Sig!

Go handle all of the polymer pistols before you make a decision, but the 17/19 is hard to beat. Everyone should own a 19.

I got my Glock 19 as a less expensive car/travel gun and it has become one of my favorite pistols. I don't get all the grip bashing. It was slightly awkward at first, but, by the end of my first range session I was used to it and shooting almost as accurately as my Ed Brown

You need to shoot them. I'm not a glock fan, so I would go with the sig.

None of those... M&P 9mm

Much more comfortable to shoot imo

Also check out the Springfield XD Mod 2. Biggest seller in the shop so far outside of the hard to find stuff.

That being said, and I preface this by saying that I really like Glock, I prefer just about anything over Glock because they are pretty freaking boring. I had to turn the one I bought from skubalon maroon just make it something I'd like! If you went back to last decade, there was not much out there that competed directly with glock on a reliability standpoint in a polymer frame. Now, you have springfield, sig, S&W, etc all with their own very reliable. Even CZ has converted their CZ 75 platform over to include a couple very good polymer offerings. Try them all out, see how they feel and then go from there. Shoot them if you can.

I've owned, shot or carried a little of everything. 1911s, CZs, Sig, M&P, Glocks, Berettas, Rugers, revolvers etc etc.

If I had to sell absolutely every handgun I own except for one, I would keep my Glock 19.

Of the three you listed, I'd go with a G19 for a couple of reasons. It isn't that much more compact than a 17, so its still comfortable and easy to shoot at the range....but that extra bit of size makes all the difference if you try to concealed carry it. Holster, parts, and magazine availability is phenomenal and low priced as well.

I think any of the three you listed would serve you well, but if I had to choose between those three? Glock 19. If I had to choose one pistol between everything I own? Glock 19. If I had to pick a brand new, in the box pistol to pick up and use for self defense right the heck now without any testing? Glock 19.

See a pattern here?

Thank you guys for your input. I will go and shoot each one at the range and make my decision. I like hearing reviews from people who own them and have used them. Thanks again!

The M&P, SIG P320, Glock 17&19 are all comparable price wise.

I say pick the SIG, the ergonomics are on par with the M&P. But the trigger is far superior to the M&P and the Glock.

I know the Glock and M&P fans will tell you, you can change the trigger but that's another hundredish more to spend or get one that got it right out of the box.

But really you can't go wrong with those options, all solid choices.

Seriously, though, find out what fits your hand the best and shoots best for your opinion.

Personally, I prefer having less recoil, and the Smith & Wesson M&P9C fits the bill for me in terms of reliability and ease of shooting.

Springfield vs Glock vs Sig....
Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge...
Blonde vs Brunette vs Redhead...

They all do the same thing, each one a little different.

Me...I'm a "Springfield/Ford/Brunette".....

Find the one that works for you.

the sig 320 is a fantastic pistol. And I am a certified, card carrying, Glock fan boy.

I completely agree. There is nothing more boring than having a plain ole black gun that goes bang every single time you pull the trigger. We need some excitement, people! Give me something with FTF's and FTE's!!

I agree with bender as well. If I can only have one hand gun it's going to be my G19.

I agree as well. My Gen 3 G19 was the first firearm I ever bought when I turned 21 in 2005. 10 years later, and I can almost count on my hands the times it hasn't been beside me when I slept. (unless I was out of the country)

Yeah, it's a little sentimental, but I love that thing. It's also a damn good gun.

No, you have it all wrong. The correct answer is Springfield/Ford/Redheads
