Are they worth the money? Or are they just a mediocre cooler with a status symbol brand? Actually wondering because im looking at getting my first high end cooler.

They are a great cooler with a ridiculous price tag. Is it worth it? That's up to you.

I got mine as a gift for some work I did with a seed company.

Unless you can get it free or in a raffle I could never justify the price.

Just got a 75 qt from a feed company on Friday. Have not used it but I would never have paid for one myself. Sure is heavy.

I have a 125 and a 45. Like mine a lot. I live out in the country and don't need to get ice often.

They are seriously expensive and I doubt you could ever shoehorn a rational justification of the price.

First a disclosure, im a dealer.

Secondly, what would ypu want out of said cooler? High end coolers arent any different if you are going into and out of them a lot. Putting food in and storing it, youll see a huge difference but for constantly opening to get beer, its nothing special. They are also tough as nails

They are great coolers but they aren't super awesome. If you don't drain the water out every day you won't get anywhere close to 7 days of ice. If you forget to drain it you might get two. They are very heavy and bulky for the amount of size of storage. Absolutely not worth the price IMO. Now the rambler on the other hand...

I recommend the Yeti Hopper 30.

Much easier to carry around, can stuff 24 beers + ice in it. Makes for a good float trip cooler. Or in the back of the Jeep. For food storage & hunting/fishing/tailgate setup, I have two 120 qt coolers that do just fine.

That being said, if anybody wants to gift me a 65 qt, I won't complain.

1.) do you use a cooler everyday?
  • If yes, you can probably justify the ridiculous price tag
  • If no, see question two
2.) when you use a cooler, do you go long periods without access to additional ice?
  • If yes, you may be able to justify the price tag
  • If no, see question three
3.) do you enjoying having nice things and bragging about them?
  • If yes, go for it.... And slap that sticker on your truck
  • If no, see question four
4.) do you live in an area with a stable bear population?
  • If yes, and you have the money, fill that sucker full of honey and laugh at all the bear fail
  • If no, see question five
5.) if all of your answers are no, you probably don't need one. Look at a knock off or just a good old fashion igloo.

Personally, I think they are useful for about 5% of outdoorsmen but appeal to about 95%. They have taken a commodity and made it into a luxury item and social status symbol. Brilliant marketing, if you ask me. But it is an excellent product, too.

Good luck!

For long family vacations somewhere where it's a pain to go get more ice, it's awesome.

We filled it up with the beer on our Frio trip, so the in and out of the cooler was pretty limited since we would get the beer we needed, float, and come home. It still had ice on the 3rd or 4th day when we left.

It would also be a good cooler to bring to the ranch for a few days.

Another use it gets from me is another place for someone to stand when we bowfish, while also holding drinks, of course. Don't have to worry about it caving in and it hoses right off.

igloo headquarters in local in katy and has some pretty good higher end coolers.

As mentioned earlier, if you intend to open it regularly for beer at a tailgate the lids can just be a pain. Igloo is hard to beat in that case. I use mine only when I am going to leave it closed for 12+ hours at a time.

I profess to owning a yeti for a few years now. It's a great cooler. But honestly both the price and brand recognition are so high nowadays you can't just leave it out like any old cooler without worrying about it getting stolen.

I'm seriously wondering if I could get some red paint to stick to the sides to "camo" it up like an igloo. Lol

I don't think there's much difference between yeti and other rotomolded coolers. I'd suggest getting one of the other brands honestly just for the added piece of mind, less harassment around here, and a few more bucks in your wallet.

They're badass and worth the money.

they do have good ice retention, but i find more value in the durability, etc. not that it necessarily justifies the price at all, but i like having something well-made that will last.

like everyting else discussed on this board...most of the people that have them like them and most of the people that don't have them don't like them.

If it's gonna be your weekend beer, sporting event, or bbq cooler it isn't your best option. If you're going to be spending a bunch of time in a place where you need to keep ice or other things cold for a long period of time, I'd say go for it.

That being said it's your money, spend it how you want and don't worry what people on the internet will think.

I got a yeti roadie for christmas a few years ago and bought me a yeti 45 for my birthday this month when i found a store that had it 25% off.

I like it because i really abuse my coolers. My igloos/coleman i was always buying new latches or hinges. These things are very sturdy! Take take the abuse in the back of the truck no problem. I had some deer meat i picked up from the processor back in February. Due to the volume of meat i had to use my yeti roadie and my igloo 5 day cooler. I picked the meat up a few hours away from my home at 10 am and did not get back to college station until 5:30. The ground meat in the yeti had actually frozen/sticking some packages together while my 5 day cooler the packages on top were already soft/pliable.

Draining the water causes the ice to melt faster, FYI.

Not true, you don't want to drain the water.

Pre cool it, leave the lid closed as much as possible and you will get 7 days of ice.
