All knowing guys and gals of the OB, I need some help.

My sister, my cousin, and I are planning a floating trip this summer. I have floated the Comal dozens of times, and the Guadalupe a handful, but never the Frio.

So, what tubing company would y'all recomend down that way?

I was about to post the same as Lizzard. You actually cannot float the Frio. It's a terrible, isolated, desolate place of no return. Garner State Park is wasteland. Stick with the Guadalupe.

Frio can get pretty rocky. I'm not sure if they have shuttles to take you up stream or not. I always love floating the Guadalupe and the san Marcos river.

Once again, & I can't reiterate this enough...STAY AWAY FROM MY DANG RIVER YOU NERVE WRACKIN' SONS OF GUNS! IT'S LIKE PLAYING CARDS WITH MY BROTHER'S KIDS!

Okay, now that that's out of the way, Neals has RV hookups right across the highway (SH 127) from their store & tube rental & cabin check in. There is also a bar there called Joe Jimmy's that's a fun relaxed place with a very "Chickenesque" feel to it.

I had a client tell me this week that the frio got pretty high and they had to stop renting tubes. I guess that is better than dragging your butt on rocks.

I want to say it's been around 6 or so years give or take, but I'm not 100% certain. Odin may remember how long it has been under the current ownership. I know he participates in BBQ Cookoffs there from time to time.

For RV parks we stay at 7-bluffs, river Rim ranch or parkview rv. Best we have found so far. All have full hookups

I took will echo the sentiments of other poor souls that are forced to go to the Frio every year that it is awful and please save yourself the time and money on trekking the hours out to Concan. There likely won't be a river when you get there and the water is so miserable that it's not enjoyable.

That being said, if for some reason you decide to make this terribly poor decision, I'd recommend Fat Rob's tubes. But that's because they're a friend of a friend.

I think the Frio Country Store at the Second Crossing runs a shuttle and you can rent from them as well.

Grew up spending 2 weeks a year at GSP. I know the river as well as anyone that doesn't live on it. When there has been rain recently, it is superb tubing, though you do have to do walking now and then. The last decade, though, between drought and more people pumping from the aquifer and lower spring flows, the flow has dwindled to maybe half or a third of what I recall as a teenager. It is still nice, but difficult to tube many stretches until some rain raises the flow for a few days.

Oh, and it is terrible.

I'll be there all weekend for a family reunion. Hopefully its not too high to float.

Floated it once the day it reopened after heavy rains and got a tube stuck for 10mim in the wash at the bottom of the waterfall. Lady at Neal's said not to go down the fall, but I was 18 at the time.

When my dad passed away in 08, Cody sent a backhoe from a local worksite to dig the plot on our ranch in Concan. Several days later when I asked him for the invoice, he refused. As much as I insisted, he never charged me.

Roger let my bride and I enjoy a weekend at his ranch house in Reagan Wells as a wedding gift.

And for a change of pace, Concan CC has a nice little layout and is usually well maintained.

We got to the park the day after the 1998 flood, and helped the park staff recover people's peoperty thathad been washed into the bushes and trees in parts of the park during the worst of the flash flood the night before. Then we waited a day for the river to start clearing up from a muddy brown to a murky green, and tried to tube it. A normal 3 hour tube only takes 40 minutes when the river is still up a couple of feet, and places got a little intense, or even alarming. I think only 2 of about 20 of us didn't get dumped by falls or rapids. Be careful if the river is up..water is powerful.

Weird, it looks like the river is only at 250 cfs. That's definitely quick, but not unfloatable.

Agreed. It's frustrating because yesterday's flow looked so promising. It's up 3ft and full of debri here in Leakey.

Hit 20,000cfs last night. We tried to go catch the Gary P Nunn concert in Concan, but the road was flooded out between Leakey and Cocan. Turns out Gary couldn't make it into Cocan either.
