FYI. Just heard on the radio. Surprised there wasn't a 10+ page on the topic yet.

I listened to and watched the debate online. Parliamentary procedure confuses me.

But, that guy from Bedford pushing his constitutional carry is a jerk.

What makes him a jerk? His personality or the idea of constitutional carry? (Havent watched any of it, genuinely asking)

His personality. He epitomizes everything the open carry movement does wrong when it comes to legislation.

The good news is despite their best efforts, it looks like we may finally get a form of OC this year.

Open carry is bull$h!t!
I don't want ANYONE to know if I have a gun.

Good news! Concealed carry is still legal, so you don't have to.

His personality and lack of professionalism. He tried to amend HB 910 (open carry) with his constitutional carry. He wasn't allowed to, as it was deemed not germane to the base bill. He then decided to make a scene and become obnoxious while on the House floor.

On the other side of the coin.....charm and candor in legislators has not always been good for liberty.

He is trolling, like he has done on every one of these threads. Ignoring the senile old man is the prudent and wise course of action here.

There was a chance for constitutional carry to at least get consideration this session. A lack of charm and candor by some made that prospect completely DOA, which is why we're going to be lucky to get licensed OC this year.

Those that think charm and candor are some type of necessity in legislative sessions should do a bit of brushing up on their history.

Charm and candor, or at least the notion of it anyway, is a very new aspect of house and floor proceedings, and I am not sure it is really any benefit.

I hope all the "constitutional carry" guys are ready for La'Kwon, Tyrone, DeShawn and Rae Rae to be legally allowed to tuck pistols openly in the front of their basketball shorts at the mall. Hope you arent around when one of their baggie shorts slips and the gun goes off.

yay!

Racist and stupid, all at once.

Well done.

OK, same answer with Billy Bob, Cletus, and Dusty who all now want to be amateur Wyatt Erp and fumble their colt pythons around while trying to buy some Coors Light and Mayo.

Don't get all bent out of shape that im pointing out reality that you dont like.

Im tired of hearing about a-hole's sidearms going off in public. AND these are people with CC licenses (that should have them revoked for life). We dont need to add every doofus that wants to act tough to the mix, which is what we will get.

Im pro CC, with permitting. there needs to be a line.

I wish you'd been able to watch them today. There were certainly times I wished they were screaming at each other instead of pretending their colleagues weren't blithering idiots, but Strickland's behavior today did not make him any friends. I can only hope it only alienated people from him and not from the concept he wants passed.

Here's part of the transcript.

"Representative Phillips, are you aware that someone else has filed a bill that they care about, that 100,000 Texans have signed a petition for, held six rallies at this Capitol and have been lobbying the legislature for a hearing in your committee for months?" Stickland asked.

He had earlier accused Speaker of the House Joe Straus and his top lieutenants of "singlehandedly" obstructing his provision when he was told the House parliamentarian had ruled that his measure was not germane to the open carry bill.

Phillips told Stickland that he had himself and the Senate to blame for his bill not advancing.

"The fate of your bill was cast when the Senate decided it was not going to take up constitutional carry," he said. "And in how you treated other members of this chamber the way those who support your bill have treated members of this house, their families, and their staff."

Now I know it would be nice if congress critters didn't have to be coddled to keep from hurting their feelings....but there's a proven successful method of passing pro gun laws in Texas, and then there's the OCT method of not getting things passed.

There's a reason a TSRA/NRA lobbied for bill passed and the OCT lobbied for bill got thrown in the trash and it has everything to do with charm and candor and in general not acting like a*******.

Charm and candor! You mean money?

No. NRA/TSRA could be college kid poor and OCT could have Steve Jobs money and they'd still suck at passing legislation.

Uh, that's simply inaccurate. Money can buy charm and candor, legislation, and even love. You know what money can't do? Take a broad head out of cat skull.

What basis is thos "reality" from?

Oh yeah, thats right, it is highly likely nothing more than made up ignorance. I am betting you have zero experience living where OC is legal and actually implemented.

Do not confuse Open Carry Texas with Open Carry Tarrant County.

One does things right, the other does not.

One does things right, now. Since they were basically called on their behavior and realized that the guys walking around looking like Mall Ninjas with an AK strapped to their chest in a Starbucks were making all of us look bad.

Small town, work in a big city.

Lived in a constitutional carry OC state for 6 years before moving back to Texas. I have a bit of experience with actually living in one of the 46 other states that is less restrictive on firearms than Texas.

So, please tell me where this line of questioning is leading.

No, you are scared of the sight of a gun. If CC does not bother you, but OC does, it is the sight of the gun that scares you.

Because there is no difference between carrying concealed or open, other than what you can see.
