We were walking this evening, 6:45ish and hear a commotion towards the south, see a long line of birds heading due north. As they got closer, lots of chatter. As they flew overhead, sure enough, a very long line of seagulls, sort of flattened v-formation, must have been maybe 200. Seemed to be pretty high up. Never seen that many, this far north and flying in formation.

About an hour later, another batch went by, due north, maybe 80-100 this time.

Saw them overhead in austin tonight, about an hour later. Pretty sure they weren't seagulls but they sounded like a gull of some sort.

Hell there have always been seagulls in Del Rio at the dump. Why is it unfathomable that they could be elsewhere besides the coast?

Only time I saw sea gulls very far inland was right before Hurricane Beulah...they were about 100 miles inland. They knew it was about to get real.

You sure these weren't sandhill cranes? They fly very high and trumpet a bunch.

As far as seagulls go, they can be found inland on most lakes and at dumps.

Surely just about anyone should be able to differentiate between a seagull and a sandhill crane. Major size difference and sound nothing alike.

I'm sure they were seagulls (practically raised on the coast) and I do know they migrate, but just didn't figure they would be flying due north from here. I thought the east coast ones migrated more, ours being resident population. I guess all the best landfill areas around here have been picked over.

I've seen seagulls in Colorado. The state bird of Utah is a seagull.

Hundreds of them live at the big garbage dump in Lewisville on the north side of Dallas.

Was in the backyard (Karnes County) last Saturday (April 11) evening with our dogs and had 5 different flocks of seagulls fly over heading north in about a 45 minutes time span. Each flock had anywhere from 50-200 birds in it.

I've heard there are bald e-gulls at Lake Somerville.

I don't know if that means they're computer generated or what. Maybe they travel via email, not quite sure. Maybe Ursus knows. I'm just passing along information.

This is very true. Even in Galveston you have to be careful. The ones on the seawall, over the gulf, are Seagulls. The ones on the other side of the island, over the bay, are.......

More proof global warming is about to destroy the Earth. Pretty sure ol Al was right. The coastal areas are about to flood. We should all turn in our guns, move to the panhandle and wait for Barry and his Acorn buddies to come feed and protect us. We might even get new cell phones so we can post on Texags.
