It looks like we have a workable solution in place with the US Army Corps of Engineers. The flood gates are closed and flow through the usual release point has been doubled to 202cfs.

I guided the river yesterday. It fished well. Most areas are wadeable, I wouldn't try crossing Spillway Creek though. Water is very clear. Lots of changes to many of the best fishing spots.

Be aware that there will be flood gate releases over the next 45 days if the lake begins to get too high above normal pool. However, despite the continued statements by the USACE that they followed proper procedure when they opened the gates on Monday, March 16 a new procedure has been implemented before any future flood gate openings. A new MUCH LOUDER warning horn has been installed and time will be given for anglers to clear the area and Park Rangers to walk the entire stream.

Here is the press release from USACE: http://www.swt.usace.army.mil/Media/NewsReleases/tabid/4954/Article/581089/broken-bow-powerhouse-offline-upstream-flood-gates-to-be-temporarily-used-for-w.aspx

I was also very happy to learn that the Congressman, for Southeast Oklahoma, Rep. Markwayne Mullin has a meeting with the top officials at USACE on Monday morning and he has sworn and signed statements in his possession from my wife, a State Park Ranger and 6 other individuals stating that no warning was given before the gates were opened on Monday, March 16.

Update to Update- The USACE reopened the flood gates this morning at 10:30 AM, but at least they warned everyone this time. Current plan is they will release 1060 cfs for the next 30 days. This flow makes fishing and wading unsafe in almost all areas of Beavers Bend State Park.

I know it impacts your business, but we got spoiled the last 5 years with the drought. Releases like this are necessary for not only flood control, but many other reasons as well.

Now might be a good time to look into diversifying the bodies of water you fish / hunt if you haven't already.

87 isn't worried about his business. It's more of an issue of safety to all the fisherman in the river.

Plus 87 knows all the fishing spots. Trust me on this.

AGLA06- the water release has nothing to do with a drought or recent rainfall.

I would say that guiding fly fishermen on the Mountain Fork River in Oklahoma, Lakes Fork, Gilmer, Welsh, Winnsboro, Quitman, Hawkins, Monticello and Bob Sandlin in East Texas, hosting trips to Belize, a fly design contract with Orvis, teaching classes on Entomology for Fly Fishers, Fly Casting and several other fly fishing subjects is pretty diverse.

Plus, if '06 is your class year then I started doing most of these things about the same time you were learning your ABC's. But thanks for your helpful advice.
Gig'em and God Bless.

Just realized how much I sound like NW80.

Great. Glad to hear it.

The way they did the release was extremely negligent. I'm not going to get in a pissing match as everything I've heard is you're a great guy.

Thanks for the update 87. Please let us know when it's fishable again.
