Aggie owned for sure. Wes Hudson is the owner. I think he's '02-ish.

I run a 1990 18ft Classic. That little boat has treated me well, and helped bring home lots of fish, ducks, and countless smiles & stories.

They are built for a specific purpose. Mine is great for my home waters in Port O'Connor along with occasional trips South. It would not be my choice for Galveston or some of the deeper open bays.

Would be happy to answer any questions you may have!

Brush....the guy that started building(Rex) them was not an Aggie as I remember. His son may be....I don't know. I and or we have had three.

My friend that I elk hunt with in Colorado and I bought one when they first came out....the 18.6" Classic with no sides... for another fishing buddy who was going to move to SPI and guide....so we were going to give him a jump start. He changed his mind. I picked it up and went fishing. My Buddy got caught up in International oil work and didn't see it for three years. I paid him his share back and kept it for about 15 years.....replaced the engine once. I fished either at SPI or Port Mansfield. Great boat for that part of the State.

I had a gas tank issue with it and replaced it with a 20' Classic when they first came out. IMO the hole shot was a little easier and it stays on plane at a lower speed. I designed NW80's favorite part of it and they were great for drifting. The raised deck is better for sighting but you lose a lot of mobility.

When Yamaha decided to drop the TRP line the Sportsman in San Benito bought about 50 engines. As they got down to the last couple of those I gave it to a son in order to get a TRP. He decided to trade it in as he also wanted to remove the towers to make it more kid friendly.

If I were to get a new flats boat the one thing I would really want was a TRP. They make a bad boat good and a good boat great. Improve the hole shot...on plane in a shorter distance and the boat will track better.

Many people are concerned with the no sides aspect. I really like it. I have had a lot of adults step off...fall off but I've never had a kid do either one. It makes getting in and out easy when wading as well as handling a large red when drifting. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much, Sun. We have been looking into a hybrid because the kids like offshore as well as inshore. I know you give up some draft for inshore, but to me, offshore ain't an option without twins...and I'm not interested in long distances, either, but do want a SAFE boat in case of trouble. Yellowfin has come out with a 26' hybrid and we are looking at the Shallowsport x3 27'. This is just in the study (drooling) phase now, but I want as many opinions as I can get....and really appreciate all of them.

No sides should be eliminated there. Sterling is another combo type you might want to look at....

We enjoyed our 20 ft Classic. It had the Yamaha TRP and it ran shallow and would get on plane in very shallow water. I know you are talking about the X3 which is a different beast, but the classics did not like the chop. Very wet and would knock your kidneys out! They are great purpose built boats. We sold ours and bought a 24' BlueWave. It eats the chop a lot better and is much more comfortable. However, it is not a shallow running boat so there is a learning curve. (IE, new lower unit with 2 hrs on the motor).

Long story short, if I wanted just a fishing boat, the Shallow Sport would be at the top of the list.

PS they hold their value very well. Sold ours after 4 years for exactly what we paid for it.

Howdy,

My husband Wes Hudson and I (Kyra) own and operate Shallow Sport Boats. We are both Class of '02. We bought the company from my father-in-law, Rex, when we graduated from college. We've been building boats here in South Texas since 1982. Thanks for the good reviews folks, we work hard to keep up our good reputation. I'm sure you've been to the website (www.shallowsportboats.com) and the FB page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shallow-Sport-Boats/120205324681742) but if you ever have any questions feel free to give us a call at 956-233-9489.

Kyra...Thanks for posting.

I stopped by the original place in Port Isabel when Rex was just getting started. I think only a couple of hulls had come out of the plywood mold that his Dad had made.

If you ever need a review I can probably come up with a pretty good one on a Falcon.
