How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have a Polaris Magnum 330 4x4 and I'm contemplating cleaning the carb on my own. Spoke with my local Polaris dealer and they quoted me at $250 + tax for the service. Based on what I've read/viewed it seems like it would be worth cleaning on my own and not extremely difficult, but wanted to get others thoughts on what you would do and any tips you may have if you have done this service on your own.

Thanks in advance guys!

I'd just clean/replace the jets. If the thing is running fine I wouldn't even mess with it.

Worse case scenario is you put a new carb on it if it isn't running at all. I'd be interested to know what a new carb costs compared to the amount the dealer wants to charge you to clean it.

Everything 03_Aggie said.

You can run some carb cleaner through it, but the best thing you can do to keep it clean is to not let it sit out months at a time. If it's running fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

I bought this from a family member and they had not run it on a regular basis so it's not running as it should.

And 03_Aggie, a new carb through a quick Google search was ~$500, so don't quote me on that price.

If you can get it to run, run some SeaFoam in some fresh gas, and you'll be amazed what it will do.

Run the fuel low then add some seafoam and run it rich for as long as you can then refill with gas and carb cleaner. $20 in additives and you dont really get your hands dirty

It currently runs, but you can tell the carb needs to be cleaned. That's interesting about the Seafoam, I'll give that a try before removing/cleaning.

The fuel is low now, how much Seafoam should I put in with the gas?

2oz/gal as a carb cleaner, otherwise 1oz/gal as a stabilizer

Stabil doesn't work. Seafoam only. I've tried both.

You can do it. Those carbs are usually pretty easy. Get the jets out and flush it out real good with some carb cleaner. If you have an ultrasonic cleaner put it in there. My dad has a couple wave runners that started running rough and I googled the model and someone had instructions for removing the dual carbs. Saved the old man a bunch of coin. The problem is I now get all the small engines from my hunting buddies to fix.

It's simple. You can do it yourself. You'll have to remove the air box and maybe the rear gas tank mounts but you can get it out fairly easily.

Put the whole can of seafoam in the tank, then get a second bottle and treat your stored gas

If you're going to replace the gaskets in the carb (which is a good idea if its been sitting for a while), then you can soak it in a 50/50 mixture of pine Sol and water for a few days. Then take an old toothbrush to any gunk that's built up. I've used this successfully with motorcycle and Jeep carbs. Make sure to wear gloves as the pine Sol strips away all the oil on your skin.
