How long do you want to ignore this user?
So recently was able to pick up a '78 6in blued with wood grips colt python. according to the guy i bought it from it was unfired and from my inspection I think the same. Bluing is 95% with only markings on the cylinder from it turning. Just wondering if there's anyone that can give me an approximate value for it (I wanna see if i overpaid or not).

AND if anyone has an opinion about current prices and if they're here to stay or if they're just inflated right now

Thanks

I sold a 6" stainless Colt Python .357 Magnum last year as a part of an estate I was helping liquidate the firearms for. I got $2,000 cash for that particular pistol from an individual. That was pretty much in line with the retail prices I looked up at the time. I made the mistake of taking it to Cabela's out north of Fort Worth, and what they offered me for it was less than half that. I've seen them retail priced from $1,500 up to over $3,000, so I felt good about the money I got for the estate.

No idea on the value of the gun, but they sure are beautiful pieces of metal.

i paid 2000 for this one. ive seen blued 6in for sale in the low 3000s though and people are getting them.

Just wondering if i should hold onto it because itll be worth 5000 eventually or sell it now bc of inflation

Keep it, shoot it, enjoy it. They are fun guns to shoot IMO.

Do you have the original box?

If so an unfired one will get you probably 3500.... probably 3000 without it

I've been looking for a while at one. 2K is a fair deal for sure.

nah i didn't get the original box unfortunately. i have a colt box that belongs to a double action revolver but it doesnt have a serial number on it anywhere.

i'm gonna keep this one as a collector and get another one to shoot. I found a stainless with rubber grips at a store but they want 2500 for it plus tax and won't budge on the price

Highvelocity, take heed of these words. Pythons are the best made revolvers, out of the box, ever. Shoot them. Don't just look at them.

I have/had a 6" nickel that I bought new in 1976. About three years ago I gave it to my son to start his gun collection with.

Of course, I think I created a monster.

I wouldn't say best made ever out of the box.

They can be finicky. Most experienced shooters I have read about prefer S&W revolvers over the Python easily.

My final thoughts on the smith vs python debate before the monster awakens...the python action is the sweetest, smoothest action I've ever felt in my life. But give me a smith 686 or 586...I can do some serious damage at distance

686 perf center is the next best thing. Python is still better though

No reason to shoot that unfired on. You could trade it for a shooter quality python AND a 686

If you think a Python is better than a 686 performance center you are either high or have never shot a gun before.

I have to admit I like my 686 more then my Python...but I know my Python is worth more. If I had to sell one, I think the Python would be it, strictly for the retail value I could get.
