How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've got a 1 year old Lab that I'm working to turn into a duck/dove dog, hoping to get him out this next season. Any of y'all have recommendations or experiences with places that will do snake avoidance training in the Houston area? Also, any advice on when is best to do the training relative to when he will first be in the field?

Wife has made snake training a prereq for taking her "dog child" to the field with me.

lastly, rule 1 adherence:

"sure it's 40 and raining, but I want to go swim in the pond and play fetch"

A dog like that will never learn about snakes. Better just give it to me. lol

Beautiful dog. Reminds me of my last one. No help with snake training just wanted to say you have a good looking dog.

Just get him the vaccine and don't worry to much about it.

Pecan Hill Kennel does it a couple times per year. I think it's $80. Takes about 2 minutes. Those dudes they bring out to do the training must make a killing, cause there is a line of dogs waiting.

Gulf Coast GSP Club used to have a yearly snake clinic.

Houston German Shorthair Pointer Club does it every year. I took my dogs to it every year AND gave them the vaccine - neither in itself is the be all for the problem of snake encounters in the wild. The club does a very good job and are very efficient as they have been doing it for years.

Training helps, but get the shot too.
