***Disclaimer - not a cigar guy! Can anyone recommend me a solid cigar shop to visit for some advice on purchasing some sticks for a Christmas present? Only place I know about in town is JJ's or Specs. I'm open to them if you've had good experiences there, but would also enjoy another local shop that isn't a chain. Looking for a last minute Christmas gift for a buddy of mine who has helped me out a ton this year and enjoys a good cigar now and then.

Thanks OB!

Haven't been to this place since it moved but the same guy runs it from when it used to be called texas avenue cigars. Pretty good service and a decent selection from what I remember. Competitive prices as well although I never got above a $15 cigar.

Cavalier on University next to Fox and Hound is the only cigar only store that I know of. The guys are knowledgeable.

To note, the guy who started Texas Avenue sold Cavalier to other guys

Haven't been back to a BCS cigar shop in years but if I don't hit up my local one in Houston I actually have gotten some pretty decent advice at Specs before. Not sure about the BCS Specs but several here in Houston have made some surprisingly good suggestions.

I'd probably go to Cavalier though.

How often does he smoke? Have you noticed if he likes dark cigars (Maduro) or light ones (Connecticut like wrappers)? This may help for recommendations. If you're going to cavalier, you may consider the my father line.

Maduro wrappers. Arturo Fuente and Bacaraat are some brands I know he enjoys.

Great. Maduro is what I enjoy as well. I'd say to keep that in mind when shopping. I'm sure he will enjoy something robust. Depending on cash flow the liga privada undercrown is an enjoyable smoke that is affordable, the 1964 anniversario padrons are excellent as well. (Depending on how many you want to buy-they are spendy). Depends on what you're going for. I also enjoy the flor de Los antillas, not super dark but a nice change up.

Rocky Patel The Edge is a fantastic cigar for a good price. Get a few of those from Cavalier Cigar and thank me later.

Specks has a good selection and better prices than cavalier.

Yes, but since OP said he's not a cigar guy, he needs to go to cavalier and talk to someone that knows a thing or two about cigars, not a 19yr old that was stocking captain morgan 5 minutes ago.

Howdy,

As owner of Cavalier Cigar Company, I try to be very competitive when it comes to price. If there is any product which you find at any other local competitor I will do my best to match or beat the prices. We also offer a 10% discount on boxes or 20 cigars mix and match. If there is a product you is in search of I will try to carry it in the store, I am always looking for new items and brands to stock.

Regards,
