Do I need to do any thing when buying a glock 19 from a friend? Is there any paperwork I need to fill out? Any help would be appreciated.

Go to his house, give him the agreed amount of cash, leave his house with the gun.

Bill of Sale

Print or make something similar. Assuming neither has a criminal record, you're good to go.

Meet up. Hand him $$$. He hands you the piece. Shake hands. Go have a beer.

You can sign a bill of sale if you'd like. I think GunsAmerica has a template. I don't bother with it.

And you both keep a copy. Just in case, you'll want this paper trail.

None required. Writing up a simple bill of sale is a good idea, though, just for your own records.

As long as you're in Texas, everyone above is right. Some states have stupid laws.

Here though: You hand him cash, he hands you gun. The end.

Congrats on the G19. I'm kind of partial to them.

All of the required paperwork is done after the sale. Usually at a distance of 25yds to a silhouette. Sometimes it's a competition square.

If you want to go beyond a simple bill of sale and beer, find a FFL dealer through the site below and go through him. If buying or selling to a friend, it may be overkill, but I'd go this route of I was selling to a stranger.

I'm not for or against a bill of sale, but for those who do it- why?

I want the bill of sale should something unfortunate ever happen just to show to my insurance company, along with the photos that I'll take of it. In my case, it's for me. Not because of my tinfoil hat.

Though currently I'm self insured on all of my weapons.

Hell son, this is Texas. Your firearms are your property.
Bender above said it well.
Enjoy.

if the person is a stranger, I can see wanting to know at least a name, in the case they commit a crime.
And for the purchaser, so the seller doesn't get a wild hair and report the gun stolen.

piece of mind. I sold one of my handguns to a military contractor, we shot for about an hour or so, he took a pic of my DL and I took pics of his half dozen contractor IDs no bill of sale and slept great. Second gun I sold was to a long haired hippie covered in tats with CCP felt okay then too. But swore I would start doing bill of sales just for piece of mind and cya.

I purposely do not use a bill of sale. I do have a record of all firearms I've purchased and sold. In the books I just put a line through it and say "Sold at Gun Show, no paperwork (or had CHL)"

I've never asked for one but don't mind filling them out for someone. The reasons are obvious. It seems like a silly thing for people to get upset about.
