With everybody posting their success pictures I figured I would post my humble brag. Axis shot in the Camp Wood area the day before WT season opened.

I wish there were more axis in Texas

He's actually not the Axis I thought he was. This was the first time I ever saw this particular deer (never on the cameras). We have a 34" and a 36" that frequents our property quite regularly and I thought this was one of those two. I saw a couple monster Axis who had shed already so most likely those were them.

This is my first Axis ever. Hopefully the mount comes back quick!

Great Axis!

I was WT hunting this weekend and saw a big Axis in the brush, along with 3 others who had already come out. I thought it was the old buck the landowner had been telling me about.

The good news is that it was the big buck. The bad news is that he had shed both his antlers. I could see the new ones already growing back. Oh well, maybe I'll see him again in January.

If you've got the money to do so, get a full body mount done. That Axis' coloring is absolutely gorgeous!

His antlers are very impressive too, but the combination of his body coloring, vivid spots, and the deep, dark brown/almost black stripe down his back make for a dang good looking deer.

I am jealous

I am doing a mount similar to the one in this photo (dad's trophies). Having the hide come up behind the mount makes for a unique way to see the detail of the hide. It cost a little more but it is definitely worth it. My wife would shoot me if I told her we were going to have a full body mount! I was able to convince her this deserves living room glory though.

That is a great idea and will look really good on the wall.

I was going to suggest having the hide tanned from the shoulders back if you were just going to do a traditional shoulder mount. Your deer's hide is a lot prettier than the ones in the picture. Don't get me wrong, the ones of your dad's look really cool, but I just like how dark your deer is as compared to the other Axis I've seen.

Couldn't you do a wall pedestal with the deer quartering away from you and still showcase some of the hide? That mount looks like the deer is lying down staring at the heavens.

It truly is an amazing mount in person. He has gotten some great comments from people who have seen it (of course, who would critique face to face). The wall pedestal was the route I was going to go if this ended up in the game room, but since we are putting it the living room this just looked a little cleaner.
