Anyone use a scope as primary, with flip ups as back up? I want to add a Nikon scope, but would like to keep my Magpul flip ups on as a backup sight. Maybe a high set pair of rings would do?

You can use an offset mount then twist your rifle 45 degrees. I don't care for it but some love it

I use the LT-104 with a Troy flip-up rear and fixed front, works great.

Is your scope mount quick detach? If not get a QD mount first. BUIS are practically worthless if you can't take the scope off quickly can't really cowitness irons with a magnified scope.

If you go rings, I would look at the 45 degree off set irons. I got a cheap set from Amazon to try them out. They work OK. Have held zero.

On my 6.5 Grendel with 4-16 scope, I put a Bushnell first strike red dot on an offset mount if the need arises to shoot at short distance.

I have no idea how good this mount is, but it's a lot cheaper than the LaRue one.

I run a Nikon P223 with Troy battlesights offset on 45 degree rails. Works great!!

The pepr is a great budget fixed mount but I don't know that I'd really trust it as a QD to return a perfect zero. The larue is great and, while pricey, worth it.

Few choices

1) if your scope is a true 1x then just flip up sights and co witness

2) get the larue 104 and remove scope and engage sights

3) Burris pepr with a micro red dot on top

I have an American defense scout mount on on AR. It is under $150 and QD. Real nice and returns to zero. Get the extended (X)

Also have an Aero Precision ultralight ( non QD) on another build. It is awesome as well and retails for under $100

You can pick up a lightly used Larue for $150-175 on the trader boards on most gun websites.

I bought these 45 degree sights off of Amazon. They are Dueck Clones and have been great for the past two years I've had them installed. After zeroing at 100 I can consistently ring steel out to 400.

I have the Diamondhead D -45 iron sights. They sit on the top of the rail, but deploy to 45 degrees when you need them. They are really nice because they aren't hanging out there to snag onto something...

I love them, a bit costly though.

Here is my set up with a Nikon scope and QD scope mount.
The scope comes off easily enough and returns to zero.
The scope clears the Magpul sights
