I was driving back to College Station from Athens the other weekend, and all down this stretch of highway were these signs:

I've done a little investigation on google, but pretty much the only thing I have found is that people have seen some monster pigs running around out there.

My interest is piqued. Anybody have any info?

Yes, that is the Tarrant Regional Water Distict property. It is the wetland cell filtration system that scrubs the water used by Fort Worth.

Lots of information about it and the Richland Chambers cells online.

Tarrant Regional Water District is the enitity that provides water to Fort Worth.

Forbidden zone seems almost like a dare to get people to go into it to figure out why it is forbidden

Thank you guys. That is really interesting to hear. Are there any more like that around the state?

I don't know of others in Texas but I think Thibodeaux, LA has one, if I remember correctly from grad school.

You an Athens native Swarely?

Before you turn at the dam both sides are part of a WMA with the right having phenomenal duck hunting habitat, and the left has produced some of the largest bucks in Texas.

Forbidden Zone? That language is a little to Orwellian, or Nazi-ish. Much like Jewden Verbotten or whatever it was the Nazis used.

We as a society are slowly being conditioned to this crap. If that sign would have gone up in the 80's or even 90's folks likely would have told them to stow it and change the sign.

I think it might have been in '99 or '02.

It's definitely orwellian, intended or not.

I'm guessing non intentional

I'll tell you what, they hired a consultant to do a study to tell them what the sign should say.

The consultant assembled 10 local idiots and the majority of them said that they would stay out if it was called the forbidden zone.

No one ever thought that this process was logical but it was dictated by a court case where the Sierra Club sued the State for something stupid and no one can explanin why it takes 10 years to build a road...

On a visit to the San Fransisco CA area several years ago, we were told that there was an area around a San Fran reservoir that was off limits to all humans except one guy who was the overseer. I believe it is San Andreas

Since the lake is a public water source, it is closed to the public. However, hikers and bicyclists may travel along the eastern shores of the lake on a paved trail that runs just west of Skyline Boulevard from San Bruno Avenue to Millbrae Avenue
