Our local one has a whole section full at 50-70 cents a round. Doesn't ever looked like its being touched. And you can buy the same stuff for 30-32 cents a round online and skip out on taxes and sometimes shipping

Are other gander stores around the state looking full as well?

I don't think Gander ever raised their prices. They've always been high.

Gander has always been very proud of their goods. They top Bass pro on price while their stores barely top academy on selection and ambiance. Its a mystery to me how they manage to stay in business.

A friend reported that one of the Gander's in Houston had .223 at about $0.41 a round. That's not terrible. It isn't good either but it's not terrible.

It is amazing to me how Gander is still around.

About 3 months ago,Gander had 5.56 independence ammo for $7.99 per box.

After the sale was over - they listed it at $8.99 per box if you bought a certain # of boxes on their website. I called the local store to see if they would price match their own website. They stated they would. So, I bought a bunch of boxes that way (in the store for $8.99 per box) - as I didn't have the available $ when it was $7.99 per box to buy that much.

Apparently, Gander will price match anything. A friend of mine worked there and he told me this because I was constantly beeching about prices there. If you can prove someone else has it in stock, they'll match it. I've never tried it though.

They price matched champion on an out of stock sig p938 extreme for me. Took a little persuasion but not too much.

Um they won't even price match their own website. I had a lot of gift cards so bought a gun at gander. The same gun was about $200 cheaper at bass pro and $100 cheaper on their own website. I took both deals in to the store and they wouldn't lower the price. Went to a different location and same story. Didn't care to fight it too much more or buy it online and wait for it to ship since my gift cards paid for pretty much the entire purchase of a $1100 gun.

Things may have changed but this was 2-3 years ago.

gander will never lower prices. their ammo prices have always been crazy high. they cater to yuppies who want outdoor gear. no reason to lower their price when yuppies are willing to pay it. look online for cheap ammo.

The answer is: around the same time they stop selling glocks for $700.

No joke. I told them I could easily get the gun for 500 and the couldn't care less. Wouldn't even think about price matching

And if you want a real good laugh, go look at the prices of their used guns

This x100. I used to work at 290 Gander in Houston years ago. Prices have ALWAYS been high on many things. Ammo is always cheaper elsewhere unless you can find a box missing 1 round then sometimes they drop the price significantly. Hell most things are cheaper elsewhere. I remember during hunting season when we would sell out of deer corn they would send someone across 290 to the Academy to buy up all the corn they could. They would come back and still be able to sell the corn at Gander for a profit. Of course this was before Academy got smart and started putting their logo on their corn.

Again I worked at a Gander and yes they will price match. It is great. That said the item has to be EXACTLY the same and we usually would call the store to confirm it. Many manufacturers produce the exact same item but sell it with a slightly different name or product number to different stores. If this was the case and it wasn't the exact same product then we couldn't honor a price match.

Yep no price matching the website or any store on guns. That was NEVER allowed.

I have tried to get them to price match a gun once - they told me company policy didn't allow such a thing on firearms.

Love to window shop at Gander, probably wonder through a couple times a month, and have bought a stuffed eagle my son wanted. That's it. Had a interesting bear/wildlife biology conversation with a salesman (I'm nice about thing), but with the load he was trying to sale me and another customer, that stuffed eagle toy is probably the only thing I will ever buy there.

I was trying to get them to match champions and they said it couldn't be a "mom and pop" but they would match a national chain

Not sure who you spoke with but they do not match gun prices. Like MisterShipWreck said it is GM company policy to not match prices on guns.

The only wiggle room you may have is on some of the used fire arms. If they have been sitting there a while you might get 10-50 knocked off on a more expensive one.

4 months ago Gander in College Station price matched Champion, maybe they stopped.

I've been told by an employee in the local store - which has been open less than a year - that Gander tends to price items high and then mark them down on sale - and they have sales all the time. I like their Guide Series clothes and buy a lot of them - on sale.

There's a simple solution to the "won't price match the website" issue. Buy online and use the "Ship to Store" option. You get the online price, pay no shipping, don't pay for the background check on a firearm, and pick it up locally - usually in two or three days and sometimes right out of store stock.

I've bought four firearms from my new local Gander in the last six months. The first I had to work hard to get the price lowered, since it was initially $80 above MSRP, but I managed to get 10% below MSRP. The other three were all priced 10-15% below MSRP - a fair price. Yeah, I could shop around for better, if there was any place close to shop at.

I've also bought lots of shotgun shells, 9mm, .380, and .22LR at the local Gander - all at great to fair prices, and all but the .22LR on sale. Never paid more than $.06/round for the .22LR.

Complaints are not unique to Gander Mountain. I looked for six months to find just the right SxS shotgun in Cabela's Gun Library. Finally found the right one in the Gun Library in Buda. Had it shipped to the new Outpost store in Augusta - a 4 hour drive for me. They never called me to tell me it was in. I finally called them and they finally found it - it had been there for two weeks. Went to pick it up and they tried to charge me the full price on the gun. Took a discussion with the gun department manager and a phone call to the Gun Library in Buda to get it straightened out. As I said - all the "big three" have their own issues.

No joke: The Gander in Lubbock had a Gen 2 Glock that was more rust than polymer or steel and it was priced to sell at $425.

I actually produced an audiable snort.

They have been doing it quite a bit lately. I wouldn't buy a gun from them either way since I can just go to Champion and buy it from people I know and like but I know several people that they have matched Champion for in the last couple of months.

I brought a Glock 22 in there just to see what they'd give me and I want to say they offered $175. The gun had been shot maybe 50 times.

Maybe not, that's a matter of opinion. But they are ahead of Academy and are one of the top 3.

When are you going? I've never been there when there is less than 20-30 cars and I stop by pretty regularly.
