What the story on this lake? I drive through there recently for the first time, it's beautiful! I'm surprised I've not heard much about it.

What do you want to know? It's a lake in east Texas, decent fishing waters and plenty of room for recreation as well.

Yeah, lol, sorry, was curious about its fishing potential.

I was impressed by its size. It's also a pretty lake with all the trees and hills.

I clocked it at just under 3 hours from the heights in houston and with it that close I'm just surprised it doesn't get more pub.

Good but not great bass fishing lake. Have a buddy that lives in Tyler and he fishes it all the time. I've been a half dozen or so times with him. It is a very pretty lake in certain places.

We have family with a house there. One of my favorite lakes there is. We catch loads of catfish off our deck and the bass fishing is pretty decent around the lake. Great for recreation as well.

The real estate is pretty expensive.

I've been on lake Palestine a lot over the years. Pretty good finishing for both bass and catfish. If the water is up you can duck hunt on it close to chandler

I was looking at real estate and for the most part it looked fairly reasonable compared to other lakes in the state. Maybe that's b/c it's in east texas, but it is prettier than some of the smaller hill country lakes IMHO.

okay yeah if comparing to hill country I think it could be considered reasonable.

We have houses to go to on Toledo Bend, Livingston, and Rayburn and Palestine is much higher end than those, in my experience.

My family has been there since before the lake was built.

My grandfather had his house and boat dock completed before the water ever came up. Amazing how they were able to know the water level within inches.

Great lake and you'd do well to grab some property if you can find it at a reasonable price. Values have gone up in recent years and will only go up in the future.

I have been fishing there since I was a child. The fishing is pretty good. Largemouth bass are nice there, stripers, whites and hybrids all run throughout the lake and are a blast to catch, crappie fishing is pretty good and I'd say catfish are great there. Take a small boat up into the back fingers of the lake and you can use a bow to catch some huge gar.

Stumps stumps stumps!! This whole area was wooded and many of the trees were left before the area was flooded. Out on the main lake you can go WOT no problem but stay out of the middle when you go into the coves. They usually bull dozed a pathway on each side if they are wide. If not take it slow until you know the area.

Seriously though I love this lake

Agree with the above poster. Be careful with the stumps.

when the lake is low they are easy enough to see, but when the water is high they are just under the surface and if you don't know what you're doing you're in trouble.

also, there are a fair number of pelicans and bald eagles on the lake which is pretty neat.

Yes I forgot about all the wildlife.

The pelicans and bald eagles are pretty cool. There are also a ton of red foxes that come up into the yard. Beaver, nutria, tons of other birds...the blue herons are great. They regularly land next to me if I am still and fishing on the pier at night. Many times they are close enough to touch.
