Wife and I were visiting her folks last week and went to their family cabin in the mountains near Ralston, PA. Riding 4-wheeler's on one of the ATV trails and heard this guy buzz over the noise of the 4 wheeler.

We heard another one on the same ride further down the trail but couldn't spot it. Family members at the cabin the prior weekend saw 3 of them over that weekend. Number of activities going on on the mountain with workers putting in windmills across the top ridge and installing a gas drilling pad. Workers claimed the mountain was full of rattlers.

Beer Leg - AbSOlutely! I can personally vouch that a pizzed off western will get your attention over an 800 crew Ranger w/ a top on it (top makes it louder in operators seats).

Definitely heard the buzz above the ATVs. Loud and unmistakeable.

I read that timber rattlers often rattle and feint but are not an overly aggressive striking species. I'd say that held true for this guy in the pic. Rattled a lot as we approached for pics, never tried to strike though and as soon as we walked the other way, he uncurled and moseyed on.
