Threads like this always make me chuckle at certain posts. Recommendations are good and provide a starting point, but no company is going to be the cheapest for everyone. So when people say this or that company can't be touched, well, yes they probably can. All companies can be beat somewhere. There are so many factors in rating that are specific to each individual's situation that you just need to shop around to get a feel for it, if price is your main issue. Your credit, location, claims history, size of your house, year it was built, type of coverage you want, etc, all impact your home insurance rate. Same with auto. Credit, driving history, age, vehicles, location, coverages, those all combine to make a price for you that may or may not line up with what you think you should pay. And each company handles all of those a little differently.
I'm not dogging on anyone who referred the OP to their company or on the OP for asking. Referrals are great and very important for both buyers and sellers. Just kind of chuckling at the idea that some companies can't be beat or something. Maybe they couldn't be beat for your situation (although maybe they could had you kept shopping around...) but that same company might be at the crazy high end of the cost spectrum for someone else.
About all I can say I know for sure is that in central Texas right now, if you have State Farm for your house, you are paying too much. :-)
