Anyone have a recommended Lab breeder? I'll be ready to start looking for a new pup around mid-May. We are looking for a yellow female from hunting lines. Not interested in a rescue at this time. I'm in Tomball, but can travel anywhere in Texas for a good dog.

Would you be ready for the pup now? I know of 2 female yellows from a phenomenal mom and pop. Hunted with both the parents. Fantastic retrievers.

I'd second the rec of Dr Tatum stated above. She's our vet on a reference from our breeder. My chocolate is a granddaughter of one of her dogs and I have been very happy with her. Great demeanor at home and has performed very well in the rice paddies. Our chocolate came from Ed Arnett of Brown Dog Retrievers, was in Dripping Springs but I think now Colorado.

Cross Creek Kennel near Crockett, Texas. Highly recommend you give them a look.

I have a yellow momma knocked up from a yellow daddy - both with papers - should know today how many are coming - pups due to come off end June or so - we are in Weatherford/Granbury

mine, and as far as I know the daddy, have no hunting background but mine does love to swim and retrieve

Which Watercross lines your girl out of? I have a Rosie x Stone female- great dog. BUT I would not recommend this line as a gun dog.

Just lost my best hunting buddy and son of Watermark's the Boss (after 12 years). Be warned - Boss puppies can be big dogs (at least 1st generation was).

Great dog and had the points or his FC - just needed a 1at place - and that was in only 2 years of campaigning. Great, great dog. Professionally trained for trials. Figured out how to quarter a pheasant field in about 5 minutes and hunted close and well (while my buddies Draughthaiers flushed birds 200 yards out while they screamed at them and whistled)!

Anybody with any other or new information re: trustworthy lab breeders/kennels?

We'd be looking for a new puppy around mid may, plus or minus a week and would appreciate any info.

I've already researched the aforementioned options and am just trying to do as much research as possible beforehand.

One big word of advice for the OP or anyone looking for a lab to hunt with:

Do your due diligence to research the breeder. But the success of your dog in the field is 100% on you. Hunting lines don't mean squat if you have an undisciplined dog. Spend 10 times the amount of effort reading training books/developing your own plan than you spend finding a breeder. The big name brand breeders are great, but it guarantees nothing. That is on you. Be prepared in that respect.

Now if you are sending the dog off to a training, disregard all I said and be ready to write some checks to have someone else train your pup.
