I searched here and AR15.com and found some helpful info, but couldn't find much of a specific hog ammo recommendation list. So what have you guys had success with?

Don't waste good money on hogs. They will still die fine with regular FMJ

I'm assuming you mean factory rounds. Winchester 64gr power points are excellent and have surprisingly good ballistics for a conventional bullet. It is my goto hog cartridge for reloading but the factory ammo is fine.

Need to consider the twist rate of your barrel though if you want to shoot heavier bullets.

Yeah, I meant off the shelf. Twist rate is 1:9.

Anyone tried that new Razorback branded ammo? Winchester makes it I think.

This. In my carbine I like 62 grain federals, but also have some 55 grain PMC that does the trick as well.

You guys shoot head, neck or vitals?

Anything but the shoulder. But yes, I would prioritize them in that order.

With that twist rate you probably don't want to go much heavier than 65grs.

I'm all about a head shot if it presents itself.

Vitals are fine as well but I wouldn't trust a 55gr fmj for that role on A big boar.

Just shoot the hog. Never leave a hog running off freely.

When we shoot out of the chopper it's cheap 55gr FMJ. But if I'm hunting on the ground or out of a blind I use 75gr hollow points. They are devastating. And they will knock down a full grown whitetail too. Thing is they are hard to come by but I've been kinda lucky finding them on gunbot every once in a while.

Handloads using Nosler 55gr BT's over H335, pull the trigger and hear a pop or the hog squeal and move to the next one.

Since I don't buy factory ammo, My go to is the handload 64gr Winchester spitzer.

Don't over think it, just put holes in all of them you can.

Don't overthink it? We're in the month of March. What else is there to do but pontificate on narrowly significant topics?

Valid point...I would counter that instead of pontificating on it, get out and knock holes in all the piggies you can with whatever ammo you have on hand...and invite me to go...

I bought some of these and loaded them into a separate mag. I had about 5 other mags loaded with cheap FMJ rounds. Woke up next morning at my buddies ranch to him unloading a whole mag and a tree about 100 yards away. Of course he picked the hog ammo.

I've had really good luck with some of the cheaper Hornady 55 gr soft points. I buy them at Cabelas and they are around 30 bucks for 50 rounds. My AR and Rem 700 love them.
