Stuck in Three Rivers for work. Tried the nearest 18-hole golf course. Not great. Hoping the fishing will be more enjoyable. If you know of any hot spots on the lake or proven bait, I'd be very interested.

TIA

The rivers channels or north side are generally good. Look for cover and cast or we have had luck trolling the river but stay shallow. Put in at the 99 bridge or Calliham. Other things in the area are kinda sparse without time to make contacts on private land to shoot or hunt. Pepe Boudrouxs on 72 near the 1042 intersection is good food and pretty lively for the area. Also within an hour or do us corpus. You can drive to national seashore and have 65 miles of beach road. Lots of fun stuff in the area just takes some time to find it.

Talked to the Daughtery WMA resident biologist this morning. The Frio is dry at the WMA, no water in San Miguel. In fact he said little to no water west of 99.

Tough times at Choke. Not far south of there Lake Corpus Christi is full. Go figure.

Three Rivers does have a 9 hole course...behind the Live Oak Sale Barn between TR and George West. I think they have the wild hog problem under control, so it might be a tad better than a Driving Range ! Son 2 played there yesterday.

Son 1 fished Choke last weekend...IF you can find some minnows, you can pick up some Crappie around the docks at Caliham.. Might check out Mathis...more water there.

Man Pleasanton is my home course!!! You should have seen it 5-6 years ago, you would really appreciate the high level sophistication of its goat raising capabilities now!!

We have had really good luck on Choke fishing around 99 for catfish. Bass are spotty, but if the lake is down there is plenty of structure about a half mile up from the dam.

If the white bass are running you can also try the Nueces right outside of George West back towards Beeville.

Go to the Staghorn resturant and have the enchilada buffet. My uncle Rod owns the place.

Do you have a boat? Whites are running in the Nueces north of Dinero per my Facebook feed every day. Mathis was a river a few months ago and a strange rain event along a small portion of the Nueces filled it up in a week so not sure how fishing is on the main lake.

In case you have a boat and a GPS...

Choke Canyon Reservoir

28.500934, -98.265943
28.492169, -98.277059
28.525821, -98.356840
28.493876, -98.250242

These spots have produced 20+ lb. five fish stringers during bass club tournaments for me. If you don't have a boat, you can fish for almost anything from the banks around Mason's Point (28.481231, -98.374165) and 99 Bridge (28.523172, -98.388684). I got these coordinates from Google Maps in case you want to pull up the locations.

Baits - Texas rigged Berkley Motor Oil worms, Carolina rigged or pegged Arkansas Shiner Super Flukes and Watermelon Red Super Flukes, watermelon pepper frogs (weightless). Watermelon Red is probably the most productive color for this lake. Water clarity varies greatly from the dam to 99 Bridge. The dam side has relatively clear water (usually), so natural color baits work best in that area.

P.S. Watch for 'gators.

Damn right....

For the record, I don't have boat; stuck in TR for work and trying to make the best of it. I do, however, have a GPS... Thanks to all for the insight. Keep 'em coming.

If ytou are brave enough you can get to some of those spots in a kayak, but like he said watch for gators.

You could also do some fishing at Tips, Calliham, or South Shore park from the bank. Low water means you have to walk out a ways but I have had a little luck catching small fish just for fun there.

Staghorn has a good buffet and MGs sports grill has good bar food, burgers, and lots of TVs. Mike, the owner of MGs, built my house when I used to live in TR.

Varsity level. 5000+ posts. Forum ethics police?

Some jeenyus needed help so I offered. If you can pull a fish from there, have at it. Those are coordinates for areas where I've caught fish, not a specific tree, drop-off, rock pile, grass line, etc. Those places are by no means a secret. Go out there on a Saturday and count the boats that troll over those locations.

Was this photo allegedly taken at Choke recently?

Reason I ask is that Choke is extremely low. In the photo, the water goes tight to a heavily wooded bank. No bare waterline is visible, indicative of a lake more than 20 feet low.

I'd head to Max's in Tilden and get some good eats too.

I was not trying to pick on you. That is a lot of lurking and awefully nice to show up and share that.

Max'. Is supposedly for sale or just closing. That could've changed, but I heard that not long ago.

Go eat at the old restaurant that Nolan use to own. Can't remember the name of it. Also, go eat at the gas station BEHIND Choke Canyon BBQ. Have great BBQ sandwiches and Tacos.
