Never done it before, but I'm going Saturday morning. Have boat and any/all necessary tackle. Any advice?

Have you seen the forecast? FRont coming through with heavy thunderstorms possible. BEFORE the front, the conditions should be superb. It should be warm air, cold water, so wait for the sun to get on the water and fish shallower than you think you should.

Yeah it seems like we may be able to get in early saturday morn just before the t-storms. Shallow water with artificial? I've only fished in the river there once before but that was in spring and we didn't catch diddly poo.

If the flow is low, you'll have reds and trout up in there trying to keep warmer in the channels, but if it's too fresh, they'll be back out in the bays.

The river is good. Throw your favorite soft plastic on 1/8oz jigheads, and work the bait down the slopes along the shore. Work it slow and pay attention as the bite can be very light. If it feels like you have snot on the line, good chance it's a fish. The Diversionary Canal can be even better, so plan on trying that as well.

Ive caught some nice big ugly's there this time of year from a little pier, not too far from the mouth, maybe a mile up or so.

I have been fishin the the Colorado river in Matagorda my entire life. The winter is the beat time of the year to fish it from my experience. I usually use The Texas teophy tackle rigs they work great under lights at night. Easiest way I have found to limit out on trout.
