Finding a Lost Dog

So my dog has been missing from our neighborhood (which is north of Bear Creek Park, just west of Houston) since 12/5. Idiot (former) lawn guy left our gate open. When we let her out for "last call" she went exploring and we haven't seen her since.

I'm wondering if I'm going about my search incorrectly - or whether I've missed something. Suggestions would be appreciated if you think I could improve my odds of locating her.

We live near a "creek". Several, actually... nearest runs straight to the Addicks Reservoir which is pretty close and there are coyotes in the area... so the unfortunate truth is that coyotes could have gotten to her or she could have wandered into the reservoir where she's not going to get help from people.

I'm checking the county animal control website and other similar websites for photos daily.

I've called road maintenance and have driven roads to look for her body in case she was hit by a car.

I have driven, biked, and walked my neighborhood repeatedly.

I have driven nearby neighborhoods/roads slowly (and have irritated others doing so).

I have asked people I have seen out walking/walking their own dogs.

I've asked the mail carrier and have given them a flyer.

I've posted signs at ingress/egress points of our neighborhood and those nearby. Some stay up and others are removed due to Nazi HOAs.

I've contacted nearby vets/e-mailed them flyers.

I've posted flyers at nearby pet supply stores.

I've posted on multiple websites/facebook pages online.

Based upon the amount of time that's passed, I'm thinking of giving up the "search" and am hoping someone will see her, manage to get her to come to them, and then call the phone number that's on her freaking tag.

Oh, yeah, is there a time of day that a dog is more likely to be out searching for food? She slept most of the day at home and I usually fed her AM and PM, but her habits may change if she's lost.

Probably gone for good. Start looking for a new dog to adopt.

My dog was missing for two weeks. I posted flyers all over the neighborhood. I hadn't heard anything.

Well, two weeks passed and a neighbor called and said a dog matching her description was in his cow pasture behind his house.

I go over, and sure enough it was her. She had been stealing dog food from his dog. She was scared, but I got her back.

So, don't lose hope. Just a story from someone who has been there.

Maybe be sure to not overlook old-school paper-published lost and found? Older folks who aren't so internet savvy may have used those resources. I would really keep following up heavily with the shelters and dog pounds too. Seems like so very many eventually end up there, even if it's not their first stop. Expand out geographically to those places too...it's amazing how far they can roam sometimes.

She is chipped, and her collar has tags with name & number... so hopefully the shelter would call if they got her... but I am following up with on-line searches because people are dumb and make lots of mistakes.

Thanks, snowaggie.

PooDoo, not ready to adopt another JUST yet.

Hi! I am sorry to hear that your dog is lost. I am with a group of volunteers here in BCS that help people with lost pets. If you would like to discuss tips, options ect. Please feel free to email me. I know several on-line sites that I can refer you too.
Also, DO NOT GIVE UP! I just helped reunite a dog gone for 2 months - this is very common actually. Dogs will roam around and survive on their own, they still have some of their wild skills.
I do not check this section of the TexAgs forum often so please contact me via email or my Facebook page if you would like some assistance, advice, etc.

This. Back in the day my male dog ran off. I went to the Ft. Worth pound where they had dogs separted by sex. He wasn't in the male section so wth, I looked on the other side and he was there.

Sorry to hear that. We lost a dog, and put an ad with a reward in the paper. We got several calls for dogs that looked like our dog. Turned out not to be ours each time, but we at least got people looking. FWIW, all of the folks said they didn't wouldn't want the reward.
