Moving to Houston this Friday and was wondering if you all could let me know where I can find a good pier or beach area to fish from? I'm getting a pier fishing cart for Xmas and I have no idea how to fish saltwater as I have been fishing fresh water all of my life. Any suggestions on locations to go to and equipment/bait to use? Believe it or not, one of my main reasons to decide to take the job in Houston was the fact I would be within an hour of the ocean (fishing). Also anyone who goes out deep and needs help with gas money let me know and I will pitch in a bill or two to help out if you don't mind the company. TIA.

Texas City Dike (may charge access fee now, not sure)
Houston Ship channel jetties (narrow)
Beach groins on Galveston beaches
Surfside jetty
Matagorda jetties

Piers in the upper coast took a BIG hit with Ike, and most have not been rebuilt.

A kayak can open up tons of possibilities for fishing the bays as well as helping on beach fishing.

Wading is a great option most of the year at various places.

Sea Wolf Park on Pelican Island (off of Galveston Island) has a decent pier but has always been crowded when I've tried it. Never caught anything there besides someone else's line
