Looking for opinions good or bad on these. I've never hunted with one or even shot one. I've been looking for a .25-06 and saw a deal on very lightly used Ruger with a Burris 3x9 scope. Price is $675.00 for the package.

My No.1 and my Alaskan are both shooters - I did sell the No.1 on though, but I plan to get another one.

My father's No.1 in 45-70 doesn't like the hornady flex-tip ammo, but it didn't do very well in my 1895CB either.

I have a #1, 25-06 and a mini 30. Both excellent guns. I wouldnt call myself a "Ruger guy" but I love both. Ruger makes quality products.

I've got a .270 M77 Hawkeye with a Burris Fullfield Ballistic Plex II 3-9 scope that I love.

What rifle model and scope model? If it is the above, I would't hesitate to grab it for $675.

M77 MKII. Here's a link to the ad:

I'm trusting you guys don't go and buy this now.

I would not call that a great deal but not terrible either. If it was .270 or 30-06 I wold say it is too high. But 25-06 can in some cases drive a premium. You are also getting a nice wooden stock instead of some black crap.

It is possible you could find it cheaper. But I would not say it is a ripoff. Some 77's in 25-06 have recently sold on Gunbroker for more and less depending on features, stocks, barrells, and scopes.

This is all assuming that is a 95-98% gun.

Same as agsalaska.

Not a good deal. Not a bad deal.

I've got a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .25-06. It's my go to gun.

I bought a Ruger American in .243 prior to this year's season. Put a used Nikon Buckmaster scope on it. It sighted in well, shoots good groups, no complaints whatsoever for a relatively inexpensive rifle. Shot a doe with it opening weekend. If cost is a factor, the American is a very good choice, IMO.

Bought a used M77 30.06 while at A&M back in 1991 with a Leupold 3X9. Tang safety. Its taken lots of animals and never had a problem.

I would say about the 25.06 and other calibers like that, you'd be better with a .270, 30.06. or even .243 if you want something smaller. I've been on a lease with people who forgot their 25.06 and 7mm-08 ammo and couldn't find it at the local store. Plus that stuff is a lot more expensive and fact is , it all kills with well placed shots.

I have a ruger M77 MKII .243 with a nikon prostaff scope on it. Its a very solid gun that can throw great groups (I can hide my groups behind my thumbnail). The only catch is that the trigger is very heavy. But after an aftermarket replacement spring from the Bic company, Its a dream to shoot.

I've got a .270, .223, and 7mm-08 all in m77. You can't go wrong with them in my experience.

It just happened to work out over the course of the last 10 years I've somehow bought 3 ruger m77's not sure how but I've got no complaints with them to this point (although I have a very serious itch to sell the 7-08 and buy a browning x-bolt in the same caliber for no particular reason). I've spent time at the range finding their favorite factory load and all 3 will hold a group of three that can be covered with a quarter at 100yds. The .223 will group 3 in practically the same hole but I've spent the most time practicing with it too.

The one thing I have done to all 3 rifles though is floated the barrel and sanded any burs that may be present in the rifling at the end of the barrel.

Looking at the ad you linked I thought the price might be just a little steep for a blued rifle but looking at the Ruger website it shows that price might be somewhat fair.

Have a Ruger American in 7mm08. Great economical rifle.

I love my Ruger rifles and have two M77s; one in .308 and another with the mannlicher style stock in .250 savage. Both have been great shooters.

+1 on the aftermarket triggers. The 77's are good but like many firearms of this era a lawyer comes attached in the form of a heavy trigger. My brother has one in .243 and it's his standard carry for deer hunting. He swapped the trigger with a Timney and the thing shoots great.

I've got a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .338 Federal. It's not the most accurate gun in my safe but it is no slouch. Stays inside an inch and a half at 100yds with no real load development. Just found a safe load with powders/ primers I had on hand. One hell of a meat stick.

Personally, I think that is too much. I bought that exact model used from the firearms store in Brenham for $425 about 2.5 years ago. Granted the one I had did not come with a scope. I would rate the condition of mine nearly flawless, so it's not like its in bad shape.

I do LOVE that gun though. It shoots submoa with factory ammo.

I regularly see Rugers like this sell for 500-550 on Texas Hunting forum. I assume you also are going to have to pay shipping and a ffl transfer fee.

Dr.- I live in Houston so I can go pick this up at the store. No shipping or extra fees. I checked Gunbroker last night and new M77 were selling from $575-650 w/o fees or scopes included so this looks like a decent deal IMO. Haven't checked the hunting forum yet; might tonight. Thanks again for the input guys.

Have two 77's one in .270 the other in .308 with Leopold scopes. Good guns. Agree with the comments about the triggers. Other than that no complaints. However, my favorite rifle is my Browning A-bolt in 7mm mag with a Leupold 3x9. Sounds like a decent deal if that's what you're in the market for.
