I need to get a good pair of gloves for duck hunting. The main 3 things I'm looking for are waterproof, thin enough to load shells etc, and warm. I have been looking for a pair for years that offer all of those but haven't found anything. I see that Drake came out with a new line but can't digest the $80 price. Recommendations?

When you find them let me know. I just threw a pair away this weekend because they pissed me off for the last time.

Seriously, I think I could make millions if I came up with some gloves like I described.

I used to balk at the price of good cold-weather gear. Then when I was absolutely miserable I'd ask myself, "would you give $10 to be warm right now" x 20 hunts a year, and *voila* it was totally worth the $200 for the gear.

Good gear lasts a long time.

Been searching for a long time for gloves like these.

I am a firm believer in the hand warmer heat packs like these:

They will at least thaw out your fingers for a second.

hand warmer packs inside a hand warmer like the kind football players wear around their waist saved me this weekend. I don't like gloves when bow hunting (esp on my right hand) but I'll wear thin gloves when its necessary. the hand warmer combo allowed me to still wear thin gloves and stay warm enough.

Eddie Bauer First Ascent Guide (warmer) or Guide Lite gloves. Meets all of your criteria: durable (leather), waterproof, high dexterity, and warm (use 'em for ice climbing).

They're spendy, though...

You might also try glo-mitts. Marmot makes a decent pair (can't vouch for waterproofing like the FA gloves, though):

I use the convertible thinsulate wool mittens. No gloves when throwing out decoys.

How about a thinner glove and use the hand warmer on the backside of your hand inside the glove; for that matter, use your uninsulated glove and handwarmers. I use insulated golf gloves with hand warmers on the backside while coaching and it seems to do the trick. Not the same as sitting and hunting but same concept.

Minnesota duck hunter for 40+ years. I used the Cabellas gloves and a golf glove when shooting on my right hand so I could load easily, feel the trigger and avoid the wind factor on that hand. Used both gloves to pick up decoys, row, etc. Never used the heaters for ducks but did when deer hunting.
My $.02 worth. Good luck!

Stopped by REI this morning and think I found the perfect glove. Mountain Hardware Epic glove, 100% waterproof, very thin and rated down to about 30 degrees by itself. If I need any extra warmth I will throw on a pair of Smartwool liners underneath.

The liner may make your hands colder if they restrict blood flow to your hands, being squeezed in the glove.

I just bought a nice handwarmer thing that clips on to my waders... Gave up on gloves.

I cant work my calls or shoot my gun as comfortably or with as much confidence with gloves, and a true handwarmer will keep your hands nice and warm. I generally pick up my decoys by the head, and use the caribiner to catch the loop on the texas rig. only time my hand get wet is picking up ducks, or if its raining.

Just a thought
