Does anyone know the best way to keep raccons off a 3 legged deer feeder?

Buy a feeder with a plate on bottom with the mechanics inside. I have had one seven years now with zero problems.

Mix Crisco and Cayenne and smear on feeder legs about 2 feet off the ground in one foot stripes on the pipes. You have to reapply every 6 months or so. It works.

.22LR with a high cap. mag. and mounted light. Win/Win.

Zip tie carpet tack strips to the legs.

I have heard the same thing that plowboy recommends, but haven't done that. I would rather spend the bullets shooting the raccoons dead than to make animals suffer intentionally. That's just me.

They feed it in zoos, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in it.

Once you catch it in a Hav-a-hart trap, tie a rope to the trap and throw it in a lake overnight. Just a little something I picked up on the Outdoors Board. No charge.

We tried duck taping the carpet tacks on the feeder legs and it seemed to work, just not as well as we planned. But the Crisco and Cayenne Mix sounds like a good idea to try.

I put a varmit cage on my feeder ($12 at academy). And just made sure solar panels and hog lights are held on with a lot of bailing wire.

I also bought some duke dog proof coon traps to trap'em. Only caught 1 so far, but it's something else to do when out there

I've seen some wrap barbed wire around the legs of the feeder. Depending on how this is done, the critters can climb around this.

Periodic night hunts after season will help.

we switched out all of our corn feeders to Hang Em Highs about 4 years ago. Coons can do sh** to them. Money well spent.

We use a spike strip called "Sharks Teeth". Only one year since using them we have seen coons on our feeders at the distribution point. We were going to "Monkey Chow"-em, but made a slight adjustment to the sharks teeth and no more coons.
