Inheriting an R25. Will be my first AR. It has a Vortex Strike First red dot scope and is stock other than that. (No idea if that's a good scope?)

I'd like to utilize it for last ditch home defense part of the year and maybe deer hunting otherwise.

Just don't know where to start. Ideas on mods, if any, or leave it as is? Little help for a beginner?

I'd put a magnified optic on it, since it's a .308 and is meant to reach out. Also, I don't know if it comes with an upgraded trigger or not. If not, I'd suggest putting one of the Geissele offerings in it.

I'm a child at this, so excuse the ignorance, but what are the trigger upgrade benefits? Pull weight?

I have an r-25. My short list is to put a new tiger on it. I have the giessell SSA-Enhanced on an at and love it, will out the same on the R25. Smooth, crisp, light. Great triggers.

So.....optics. If I wanted to set this up to hunt long distance in west Texas and Wyoming, you guys have scope recommendations? Since the gun is gratis, I can spend on some good glass.

What sort of optics for varmint and hogs at night?

Also, a general question, do optics have to be re-sighted on these guns if I use some of the quick release mounts?

If you want a new trigger, look at CMC. I put one in my 3-gun rifle and it's great. Get some KNS Precision anti rotation pins too. I don't remember, but do the .308's come with a flash hinder? If so, puta break on it.

The 1 r25 I've fired had a pretty rough trigger. I was really surprised. Definitely might want to look at replacing it.
