The Mrs is left handed, but uses both hands. She's shot my Beretta 92FS, right handed, but found it to be a little large. She'd like to find a smaller gun and one that she could shot with her left or right hand. We think we'd like to stay with 9mm. Suggestions for guns to try out? Red's Indoor Range here in the Austin area has a pretty good selection of guns to rent.

Women tend to get along well w. G17s. Really, any tupperware should work.

So would a P7, if you have taste. :P

Sig P938 has an ambidextrous safety and is compact 9mm. Never shot one though.

I'm a lefty and use a .38 special revolver. I would recommend it for any lefty and the ease of use is a plus if she doesn't practice often.

I'm a lefty as well and really like the M&P9C and also the Ruger SR9c.

Perfect in the ergos for lefties. The Ruger is a bit thinner and fits my wife's hand great with the backstrap on the flat side.

Glock 19. I bought my wife a Sig P238 which she really loved until she shot my Glock 19. Now it's HER Glock 19.

If you want a TRUE ambi-striker fired pistol, check out the FNS-9 &40. It's all true ambidextrous controls; slider release, safety and magazine release, rather than just adaptable or reversible like the others.

The downsides are the trigger is a little rough, but it will eventually break in. It costs a little more than a Glock, M&P or XD, there is no aftermarket support, and the magazines are a little pricey.

The M&P is a good candidate out of popular options.

For a truly ambidextrous pistol (all controls mirrored without any need to swap) the HK P30 or P2000 are both good options. You would be hard pressed to find a better built pistol than an HK.

I'm left eye dominant and do everything left handed with the exception of throwing right and writing I use both, so I'd prefer to shoot left handed, but I just can't find one that is comfortable.

Oh....and I have a Walther P99 that I shoot right handed.

My experience with the sr9c is a good one. I actually own a ruger sr40 great in the full size categories all of this model of gun have ambidextrous safeties, and with the sr9c you won't compromise round capacity like you would with a revolver or a subcompact. All the m&p s are basically the same platform but made by smith and Wesson so if you have a brand loyalty go with the one you prefer all great guns.

Same boat as you, spent all day Saturday looking and kicking tires, and ended up with the FNS 9MM. That's what my wife is shooting in my pics.

Yes Dubi is correct, it did take some time getting used to the trigger pull as it's a little longer IMO than my XD Sig.

I have also been carrying it as my conceal/open carry with a Blade Tech holster. Also, since you're a lefty preference, holsters were a little difficult to find at least for me anyway. However the XD 9,40 and 45 will fit the FNS you just have to tighten the screw a couple of turns.

I have not good a holster I like at all. Not have I found a conceal carry purse that I like. I refuse to carry a purse that looks like most of what's out there. I want it to work, but I want cute or nice or elegant depending on the occasion.

As a lefty myself, just learn to manipulate the controls of a right handed pistol with your left hand. I work the standard maga release with my middle finger of my shooting hand, and work the slide stop/release with my trigger finger. Most of my pistols don't have a manual safety, but ambi safety's are pretty common. On ones that aren't, with a little bit of practice you can crane your left thumb behind the beavertail and work the safety. I wouldn't recommned that for defensive carry, but it is doable.
